I think you’re being ever so slightly pedantic, but if it makes you happy “My donation went directly to the Plc”.

I didn't meant to have a pop at you, apologies if it came across that way. More that it highlights why the WSR is still "different" to everywhere else.

As Robin said I also don't care how you donate.
But staff need work to do. So I'd suggest that everybody should donate as they see fit. WSRA will continue to support the WSR however we can, just like we did last year and hopefully just like we will do next year. Donations to 4561 will keep staff working. Donations to rail renewal will keep staff working. Splash the cash about and the WSR will be fine. Want to get most bang for your donated buck and you are a UK tax payer then donate via a charity.

Id rather save me cash for food for the next uncertain weeks.

Anyone want vol 1&2 of the Taunton to Barnstaple books, for £20 for both.

That ‘desire to protect the railway’ would have to come from the Administrator and the creditors. That’s a very risky bet.

I have kept out of the WSR issues mainly because I still have (despite many posts on here) very little idea of how all the various groups, of which there seem many, inter-relate or just fight each other.
However there are a lot of railways after money through no fault of their own, and it would appear that most of us will suffer our own financial hardship. (For example my quite large IAG shareholding has fallen from £5.66 a month ago to £2.16 (and that after a slight bounce back due to basically grounding the fleet).
I really cannot see how the WSR (who based on the S & D Eviction issue) do not even seem to understand how the charity rules work, should be anywhere near the top of a list that people would wish to donate to.

It would, but right now, I suspect the alternative might return less and be politically unacceptable.

‘Politically unacceptable’ is not a valid consideration for an administrator.

But may be, for example, for a bank deciding on whether or not to force administration.

I know that a lot of WSR active volunteers like myself watch this thread without commenting, so I have a suggestion to all of them, to consider donating a portion of the savings we are all making each month in using less fuel not traveling to MD or BL . it costs me about £20 a visit. Which fund or to PLC it doesn't matter but please lets all try and keep our railways heart beating.

But that could only happen before the point of insolvency and administration was reached therefore it’s irrelevant to what I actually said. What happens before that point is an entirely different subject.

On this day in the WSR's recent past

23 March 2004: "Recent experience with the GER J15 no 65462 have given the Railway a better idea on appropriate loadings for the veteran locomotive. When working alone, the J15 will be limited to three coaches - which may create problems with overcrowding - and when double-heading, no 65462 will be lead the train. The Railway sincerely hope all understand these moves are in the best interest of the guest engine, the footplate crews and timekeeping over the busy weekend."

The West Somerset Railway Needs Your Help!

    I need a legal opinion:
If I offer the Plc a $10 donation for operating expenses on condition the S&DJRT lease issue is dropped,
is that regarded as bribery or blackmail?
If so, which incurs the lesser penalty?
Answers on a Postal Order, please.

    1. Would they accept foreign currency anyway?
    2. Whence do we get a Postal Order anyway in these days of closing Post Offices and general shut-down, let alone whatever exorbitant fee they charge for such things.

Meanwhile...the pub has shut...the cafe has shut....even the 'chippie' has shut now...will I survive the wife's cooking (assuming we have any food left to cook) ? :)

On a serious note......I have sent a donation to the WSRA specifically for 4561 restoration - indeed, I wrote that on the back of the cheque! They will get the extra Gift Aid, the Plc will get the work for Restorations, and if all else fails then hopefully there will at least be a working Prairie to join 5542 'somewhere' to keep the WSR spirit going.

A few days ago we asked for information on the fate of the BL Station cat who has been "on the railway" for at least 8 years. So far no information has been forthcoming! Has the cat been abandoned? We hope not. We would willing donate some food but are in "lockdown" at present due to health problems. Please take care of her, or arrange for someone to doso. Please let us know what is happenning.
