Rolling cancellations, month-by-month, I suppose. Quite a few firms are doing this. The variation is how far ahead they're looking - 4, 6, 8 or 12 weeks. I've just had an email saying that a music festival planned for early August has been cancelled. I guess the organisers were about to pay a large bill (concert hall hire?) so pulled the plug while they could still cover their liabilities. Other organisations won't want to lose the chance of some (any!) income...

Expect announcements about WCRC May excursions around 20th April?

Would you please stop posting such pessimistic messages on every thread? You might be right, you might be wrong. Nobody knows at this point and continued speculation does nobody any good.

I dont think comments like this help us as we look to the future of our hobby and the well being of the industry.
Please lets be optimistic at this time. West Coast provide a fantastic service with the Jacobite while some of us like nothing better than spending time up in the Highlands.

Reading Steam Railway Magazine today, it is obvious that the Jacobite season must be cancelled. So obvious in fact, I can't understand why it hasn't been done as well as next year being in huge doubt.

Why is it obvious that the Jacobite must be cancelled for this year never mind next year, WCRC web site says,

"The well-being and comfort of our guests is and continues to be, of paramount importance to us. In light of the recent Government announcements we have cancelled all of our trips due to operate before the 30th April 2020. Every affected customer will receive a letter offering a choice of either an immediate 100% refund, or a transfer onto another train operating in 2020. A decision regarding trains due to operate after 30th April will be made in a few weeks as the situation develops, and we will keep customers updated.

We will continue to review the advice from the Government along with Public Health departments in the UK and take all appropriate measures. Any affected passengers will be notified as soon as any notices are received."

So they are following government guide lines and keeping their options open, just like any other business in this country, abandoning this season and next years are not an option.

Why do you need to cancel something that isn't running. Pretty much everyones life is on hold at present, just like The Jacobite, but most of us are not considering cancelling that life. No one knows when this will be over or what shape the world will be in when it is but we all retain the optimism that life will get back to some semblance of normality eventually - and for some of us the return of the Jacobite is part of the normality that we look forward to. Why not just let things run their course.

And with slight variations in dates, that is what is happening with all the TOCs and tour companies. It's not as if the Jacobite is any different from anything else.

I'm presuming @torgormaig question is rhetorical. It is tempting to try to answer it.

I’m genuinely intrigued as to why
It’s a hugely popular tourist attraction. As soon as restrictions are lifted, I’m sure operations will recommence, and I, along with several others I imagine, will be straight up to the West Highlands to enjoy this. So please enlighten us with your hard facts to the contrary...

    Repeat after me:

    We mustn’t panic.
    We mustn’t panic.
    We mustn’t panic.
