You learn something new every day! For anyone else scratching their head, it would appear there was no year zero, it went from 1 BC straight to 1 AD.

I'm sorry if it's of no interest to you, but it was put together from details gathered from various sources on board and then passed on by those who are in contact with the passengers, keeping them updated as to the reasons we are sitting in the middle of nowhere. It then results in when leaving the train, the said passengers had nothing but praise about the whole trip, delays notwithstanding.
Maybe all those who take the trouble of timing these trips should not bother either, since most of the info can be sourced elsewhere.

Reading another NP forum recently I was struck by how kind people were being, praising photos/videos and the effort often involved in getting them/sharing them with us etc. I thought, what a nice place NP is becoming....Sadly your recent correspondent seems to have reverted to the "old" ways. a) stating the bl**ding obvious and b) being unnecessarily rude. Your end remark is most appropriately aimed at those who seek to decry informative and helpful persons such as yourself. Perhaps some might make a New Years Resolution:" I WILL try to be a kinder nicer person this year"? (Or perhaps they won't.)

Never been keen on new years resolutions, but if I was ask to give advise on posting to NP( extremely doubtful I know,)I would say always tell the truth ,if not you will always get up someone's nose.

60103 delivered a nice, vocal climb of Shap on 18th December:

    Hi,

Could I have your help please chaps?

I am just typing a page for the 'Flying Scotsman Christmas Dalesman' tour on 18/12/19 for Six Bells Junction.

Can anyone please tell me what worked the tour from Manchester Victoria to Carnforth [U&DGL]?

From various YouTube footage I have worked out that 60103 (with 47854 on the rear) worked Carnforth [U&DGL] via Shap to Carlisle, and then the return leg from Carlisle via S&C.

Did 60103 work the return leg throughout from Carlisle to Manchester Victoria with 47854 on the rear?
Or did they change locos at Hellifield Goods Loop? If so what worked forward please?

    Cheers

I noted it as 60103 all the way through to Manchester at the time:

47854 hauled the train from Manchester to Carnforth, with no other diesel on the rear. It therefore moved to the rear at Carnforth.

    Thank you Ian.
Can you please confirm what happened on the return leg?
Was 60103 removed from the train at Hellifield?
Or did it work all the way back to Manchester Victoria with 47854 on the rear?

Are you sure that it was 47854 that went to Carlisle with this one . I was the guard for the Carlisle shunt and the return as far as Hellifield and my notes show 47746 as the diesel involved. I might be wrong as it is only a diesel loco but I usually record it accurately (I think!)

Yes definitely 47854 Diamond Jubilee arrived in Carlisle on the back. There are a fair few Youtube videos of it.
