The faces may change, but the problem it appears does not in Somerset,
i'm waiting for the midsummer murders episode based on the WSR , Where a prominent member of the board gets found bludgeoned to death with a Tablet, an secretive emailer from a bed room in Minehead keeps sending out clues, sending the police in the wrong direction, who dun it ;) the signalman( person) , the local vicar, or that man with the big scary Dog.

I had a cleaner on an early trip in his career up the loco promotion ladder catch me round the head (accidentally) with a full size Webb-Thompson at the Bluebell. I didnt half see stars.

Presumably such incidents are why the miniature version was devised. For a relatively brief period in the eighteen nineties the so called "Invalid Express" ran non-stop from Ryde to Ventnor. Supposedly, at Brading, it was the practice for the fireman to throw his staff into the rose bed in order to concentrate on catching the new one held by the stationmaster.

The caption at the start of each of these videos "Bringing together all members of the WSR family" seems significant, and admirable. Sadly not everyone agrees as to who are members of the family.

  15. The latest Steam Railway Mag is out with another bad news story. Seems Locomotive 5542 Ltd have been given notice to remove their autocoach off the Railway. Thankfully 5542 Ltd are in discussion with the plc with a view to it remaining at the WSR. Good luck guys, I really hope you reach an amicable resolution.

A WSR spokesman is quoted as stating they had been occupying the site rent-free. He also said Sherrings Yard is costing an arm and a leg. I didn't realise that was a plc commitment, did it transfer to the plc along with WS Restoration?

Suffice to say, this is all so clearly part of the Great Leader's plan to create his own private trainset. Who remembers just a few years ago the Great Vision, announced to much fanfare and enthusiastically supported by several misty-eyed PLC Directors beguiled by the Great Leader's charm and charisma and promises of great riches, to convert half of Williton Works into the base for 'JJP Enterprises', where Thornbury Castle would be overhauled, teeming with happy loco department volunteers enthusiastically donating their time to JJP's, um, privately-owned restoration project, the donations would come flowing in, there would be apprentices, money from Hinkley Point etc etc. Oh the irony, it hurts!!

Good luck 5542 indeed. Although quite why you'd want to remain at the WSR under the current management, who knows.

From the examples you've given, the bad press has come entirely from the WSR's own actions - that "unfortunate statement" is presumably a direct quote from the heart of the company.

If you want to stop the negative headlines, the railway should stop the negative actions.

Just in case anybody needs a reminder of the history:
    http://wsrchairman.blogspot.com/2018/02/thornbury-castle-and-williton.html

This line is interesting; "Jon can bring a huge amount of publicity to the railway and his intention is to team up with Bridgwater College to provide engineering apprenticeships."

@FrankC, I seem to recall that you were a PLC Director involved with the Williton/JJP proposal at the time. Indeed I seem to recall that you were intimately involved with the negotiations and got into rather a lot of hot water when the 'plan' was sprung on to an unsuspecting public with little or no consultation whatsoever with other stakeholders at Williton, including the WSRA.

Now what I find most interesting about all this is that, who was saying, just a few pages back, that there was no 'business case' for taking on those BESTT apprentices? Ah yes, here it is.....

Does anyone know how much rent was paid when Thornbury Castle spent time at Williton ?

As for the owners of the autocoach being given notice to quit, all of the other non-core groups along the line must be looking over their shoulders. Is this the sort of railway we want ? Some folk need to wake up and smell the coffee. I suggest they click on the link below
