Has a site been identified for the OOC turntable or is it dependant on the Furzebrook sidings situation?

    Thanks

I am no one, but I thought Herston had been mentioned, close enough to turn mainline excursions, but out of the way of Swanage and didn't tie up too many paths if it had to go to Furzebrook.

There was an approved planning application at Herston one time on the Purbeck planning site, which may have expired as I could not find it on the new Dorset site. But I do still have the plans on my machine, shows a 70 ft Cowans not sure if that is the OOC one.

As limited construction work is allowed (meeting some conditions like keeping 2m apart etc) is work continuing on the carriage shed? (which will help keep stock in better shape especially during winter) or has work stopped?

You say limited construction, work has not stopped on 330 houses being constructed close to the circuit I walk my dog every morning,

My neighbour is an engineer in the construction industry. He told me that the companies they work for have received a letter from the government confirming that they can continue working as long as they can comply with the distancing rules, etc.

Swanage Railway was in the process of obtaining a TOC licence to allow them to run trains on the mainline. Now that it is looking unlikely that there will be any service running to Wareham this year has becoming a TOC been put on hold until next year?

I try to avoid going out even for a daily exercise, but yesterday had to go to Boots to collect my wife's prescription meds (which they managed to get wrong so I will have to go back again). Still it seemed impolite not to take a quick image or two of the railway. The second may be slightly blurred as I was taking these one handed whilst I had a bag in the other hand. Finally to prove spring has come the dining set parked in the sidings taken this afternoon from one of our bedroom windows.

    Hi everyone,
As you may well be aware the current shutdown of the railway has put us under massive financial pressure. As no income is currently coming in and with many overheads still to be paid, the struggle is more real than ever.

Please consider donating and or sharing this appeal video as much as possible to ensure the future of the railway.
    Many thanks.

I think conserving funds to try to survive the lockdown and subsequent recession is probably the order of the day.

I am surprised at some of the other comments being made on here. The financial realities are that the railway has annual costs of nearly £3 million which is mostly covered by the fare income. You can't simply turn off all your overheads overnight. Even with gov furlough scheme. There is already hundreds of thousands £ in lost revenue and not a hint on the government's exit plan. We could be looking at the loss of the entire operating season and its not simply going to be back to 'business as normal' when the lockdown ends. There is bound to be an economic hangover amongst the working population and in the retired population confidence to mix in public will take time to return. There is enormous economic damage being done to the railway every day this goes on.

We desperately need your help. Please go to https://www.swanagerailwaytrust.org/giving

Thanks for the answer, so no work on the carriage shed to preserve funds.
Good in the corona thread quite a good amount has been raised to pay rent etc, but more needed.

Whilst the donations seem "quite a good amount", it is peanuts to the lost revenue. There are many projects around the railway that also need funds and just to buy the parts needed for the N class refurbishment according to last summer's report is £24,422.64 Multiply that by all the projects around the railway and add the wages and rent and you begin to realise that the railway needs far more than has been already donated.

Surely all projects have been put on hold though? Most staff furloughed as well, so reduced staff costs. All donations can then go towards absolutely essential unavoidable costs.

Latest update on the appeal total is that, thanks to a fantastic donation of £17k from the Swanage Railway Trust’s ‘200 Club’ members lottery, and yesterday’s generous contributors too, the total raised to 9 April was £66,879.

Thanks are due to everyone who has contributed, but as has been said previously, there is a long way to go to make up for the lost revenue at such an important time of the year; every additional £ will help to secure the railway’s future.

The ‘200 Club’ is a members lottery that has a long and successful history of raising funds for major projects around the Swanage Railway.

I think we must also be aware that one of the unavoidable costs is that both rolling stock and infrastructure are deteriorating during shutdown and will require funding to refurbish/repair as they would have done during this period. This cost would have been funded by fares and now needs to be funded by donations. (probably rent and rates as well)
