Snowdon Mountain Railway?? Even if it was scaled down to fit the track, I don't think it would manage to get far from Llanberis... :p

Just be grateful that they didn't buy 7027 for conversion to a "Star" - which I've heard was being seriously considered not so long ago!

It is unusual they build the boiler before the chimney not like most new builds how they do it. It’s good to see

The boiler for Corris No.10 (Falcon) was manufactured very early on in the build. It's taken a while for the rest to catch up ..... hopefully not too much longer now!

I've a recollection they built the tender first (with a very old chassis) - but it was that long ago my memory may be playing tricks!:)

I think you're right; there's an article about it in 'World of Trains' (remember that partwork from the early 1990s?) that predicted it would be finished sometime in 1994/95. But yes the tender was done first and is actually one of two or three original chassis that were found acting as snowploughs at Machynlleth.

ISTR that the boiler on this long running new build is from an "Austerity" tank loco and is not newly-built. I'm sure someone out there will be able to confirm this or refute it. A full size replica of a Bloomer already exists of course. (At Wolverton I think.)

I'm pretty sure that all three of the Mc Connell tender chassis had carried oil tanks not snow ploughs. The recreated Bloomer tender uses parts of one of the Machynlleth ones and one from Northwich according to the RHRP lists.

Could you be thinking of the broad gauge single at Didcot which did, indeed, use a modified Austerity boiler? The Bloomer has a new boiler designed in-house by Bob Meanley and built by Babcox. More info. with photos here: http://www.tyseleylocoworks.co.uk/uploads/documents/BloomerLeaflet.pdf

They should look after the Windsor engine better. I went there 3 years ago and it was all dusty and rusty they should look after it and was bad they scrapped the tenderer of it. It has good cab parts in it so they could be used to make a working one instead

Who is "They"!!! It'd still basically be a new build, a few shiny trinkets from the cab won't make it any easier. Doesn't it only have half wheelsets, the top halves (hidden) don't exist?

That is correct. I bunked school to see the loco and carriages craned up onto the car park, about 1980ish. ten year old me was absolutely gutted to realise it really was just a big paperweight with no internals, no big wheels. I remember the guy from RESCO saying the carriage bodies were on shortened mk1 frames and not really understanding. All very pretty though.
Some years later I visited the Royalty and Empire display-amazing diorama, but so lifeless, just loads of dummys dressed as soldiers

The tender underframe was genuine LBSCR and wasn’t scrapped; it is being used as the tender for “Beachy Head”.

You do realise that, pretty as it looked, that was just a cosmetic replica, not a working (or even potentially working) loco?

A lot of us on here have given up our time to volunteer at various heritage railways etc over many years and I can't be the only one who's getting irritated by the continuous "They should do this" or "They should do that". Who are "they"?
Please think a bit before you post what, I'm sure you believe to be, helpful suggestions particularly at this difficult time. Most of us actually want to get back to giving up our free time at our various railways but can't do so until the lockdown ends - I should have spent the last 4 days volunteering.
Better still start volunteering yourself and see what it's really like - you might actually enjoy it too!
    Ray.

I think Anglo Saxon is more apt, and “He gist” should be “Hengist”.

Thank you - in hindsight I really should have been able to connect the dots myself!! A bit of a once over before posting something never hurts, though.
