Hi Nick, I'm confused - not good at my age! The RHRP picture shows a Y10 fruit van, which according the Beard, Atkins et al, were nos 106025-282 and had been converted from W10 cattle vans of lot 922. How certain are of the number(aW8) given above? Having said that, and having studied the Swindon drawings (albeit much reduced) in Russell's G.W. wagon plans book the only difference I can see between a W8 and aW10 is that the former has DC brakes and the latter lever handbrake.
What is the second chassis to be used for? Just curious.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

    Hello,
Sorry for the delay in replying.
The Cattle Wagon body: W8 or W10?
My GWR Wagon Bible is away at present on loan..........Pat Goss And I have been attempting to work out what the body diagram is.Some further research is called for.
The number given to me could have been a mistake regarding the diagram. all will be resolved once this medical intervention has been resolved.
The second cattle wagon chassis is a Llangollen Railway Project. They are looking to build a GWR/BR W cattle wagon.
The GWR 813 Fund has purchased a GWR Open wagon from Swanage Railway. We had intended to use the Open as a donor wagon for the W irons, wheels sets and the DC Brake gear. However, with the question of a W8 or W10 Diagram we might no longer need DC brake gear. Another factor with the Swanage Open is it is the only one of two GWR Opens built by The Royal Arsenal, Woolwhich to survive. The Fund owns the other. So we have decided that this Swanage Open will be kept and will be added to our Restoration list. ....we now own 103 wagons/carriages.

Good news, I can’t think of a better home for it at present. Having seen what’s left of it at reasonably close quarters while shunting our CCT out, I look forward to seeing it progress in due course.

Just posted on Rail Advent. "The 4709 group has announced that Great Western Railway 4700 Class locomotive No.4709 will be leaving Llangollen Railway to travel to its new home at Leaky Finders."

Is Llangollen winding down its contract work?

Nope, from the sounds of it it's more like 4709, Morayshire and 45337 leaving, and Jeremy Hoskins 9F arrived already for contract work on its bottom end, possibly full overhaul?

Looking at the 4709 website, I got the impression that moving parts, from several locations, to produce the rolling chassis, had been planned in long ago.

Where is 45337 going to? Thought it was Llangollen-based these days - or is it just leaving the workshops to return to traffic?

Sorry Gav your information isn't one hundred percent correct, 45337's future is still being decided by the directors of 26B.
Leaving Llan is one of the many options still on the table, but at this moment we still haven't decided which one of the 4 S's we will do with 45337.

It's not a problem Gav, the lads in the shop jumped the gun a bit and made up their own ending to the story well before the final chapter has even been drafted.
I blame it on the amount of sugar intake, it gets them over excited!!

    Four S 's

    Sort, as in overhaul.
Stuff as in stuff and mount for display.
    Sell, as in one piece
Scrap, as in break up , sell off certain components and bin the rest.

    Cheers John

Out of interest how much would it cost per wagon to rebuild from scratch a new cattle wagon with 2020 ease of maintenance in mind?

Just having a random thought having seen a 5532 group post with 5553+5199 double heading into Carrog.

When Corwen is open will Carrog see trains on both the Up and Down platforms during the day, or will they just use 1/ the up in both directions?

The signal box at Corwen won't be fitted out for possibly three years, so it will be one train working from Carrog until then, with a temporary ground frame at the east end of Corwen station.
It's more likely that trains will cross at Glyndyfrdwy, this being the half-way point.

Thanks Bob, but I meant will trains use the different platforms at Carrog when not passing trains, or will they just use the 'main' (believe it's the Up) platform?

Most of the time the line operates one train working is used, so the box isn’t manned. At the moment the guard operates the box to run the engine round at Carrog, but once the engine is run round at Corwen the box won’t be used at all on one train working and will be treated as just another part of the single line (like at Goods Junction and Deeside), so all trains will pass through P1. When the box is manned at busier times, if two trains are passing then clearly both platforms will be used, otherwise it will probably be used in the same way as now with P1 being used in preference due to location of shops and for accessibility reasons.
