They went home in the week before the lockdown. The 9F left also on the morning after the PMs announcement. Was a busy period!

There's obviously not a lot going on at the moment for anybody to report, so I'm posting these two pictures of 506 and 499 taken on 24th of June 2011. They give some idea of the hard graft put in by the guys from the Urie Group. RN0893_DxO-Edit.jpg RN0894_DxO-Edit-Edit.jpg

Well done Bill & good luck with your next one! :)

Question is........ what next after reaching Holyhead?...... Kings Cross to Edinburgh non stop a la the Flying Scotsman?...... :Jawdrop: :Saywhat:

Me, I need to check the water tank to see if the Mrs hasn't spent it all, so that I can work out how much to donate!

75079 in the yard at Ropley with the 9F tender, 16th September 2007. Copied from a colour print, so not as sharp as I would like. IMGP3252_DxO-Edit.jpg

so that's what she look like when she arrived. joint the group in 21014 so a lot of work had already been done. (the 9F looks quite good behind it)

there is still a lot to do though, but the last time i saw 79, it looked largely complete the boiler, though yet has to be done, wasnt she due to be done by 2022 ? with the Std 5 being done soon afterwards, iwould imagine that the bottom half of the 4 is done, and that once the boiler is off, and in the boiler shop, they will start on the running gear of 73096 .

People also need to remember how good a Bulleid sounds on the MHR. The Mid Hants Railway isn’t the Mid Hants Railway without a Bulleid running on Mid Hants metals.

No need to apologise for the quality! I think it's fine. What's more, although you took it 12 1/2 years ago, it really lifted my spirits. We may have to wait a bit longer for this engine than anticipated but (assuming we're spared the dreaded virus) 75079 will be a real star. I was only 9 years old on a certain fateful day in July 1967 and far more interested in space rockets at the time but with one set of grandparents living in Overton and the annual visit often including a trip to Basingstoke by train, it's highly likely I would have seen 75079 in action as a small child so I'm therefore looking forward to doing so again.

One loco that is missing and one that I am really looking to seeing in steam again soon is 34105.

    Sir Frederick Pile?

When I visited the MHR in the early 80s it seemed like Bodmin and Brian Fisk were the only working locos on the line as they were all I rode behind.

I think that was pretty much how it was until WD 90775 entered service.
I have a vague memory of a WC or BB going through Woking when I was at the bus stop outside the station. (The joys of boarding school, and parents in Aden, meant that an unexpected half-term meant that a few of us stayed at school but were given unheard of, and unrepeated freedom.) Still prefer WCX or BBX, though.

Along with Errol Lonsdale, the first steam loco I ever rode behind.

Really? I doubt if the difference is noticable either way.

From a fitters's perspective, Jarvis all the way.
