Prices for second-hand NG steam locos

As a matter of interest, are there available any recent prices for NG steam locos that have been on the market in GB? Also, information about the state of repair of the locos concerned would be useful (e.g., operational, needs a 10 year overhaul, needs a new boiler, etc). Individual loco information welcome if no-one has an overall list! Mostly interested in small 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 tanks.

This is to help decide whether some prices mentioned in respect of certain particular locos are greatly inflated, or within a reasonable range. (The details are currently confidential, and do not refer to GB-based locos.)

Miniature locos can cost 100 ooo so they are probably a lot more than that. Tornado cost more than a million

Thanks - but we're not interested in either miniature gauges nor blooming great standard gauge express locos! ;)

Any info on GB-based narrow-gauge (e.g. 2', 2'3", 2'6") most welcome though. We're looking for second-hand prices, not the cost of new builds....

The last loco I recall being sold (in public view) was Charles Whytock, privately owned at the L&B which I'm sure you are aware of Martin. There is of course the oft quoted price of £250,000 for a new quarry hunslet from Statfold, but that's a good few years old now.
@City of truro fan We are talking about narrow gauge locos here-you can't compare Tornado (£3m cost) with a 2' 0-4-0T

Bit of a tangent but given the above mention that an NGG16 went for 50k- would a power bogie from one of these be a suitable basis for a non articulated 2-6-2 build?

I seem to recall that the Stirland family at Exmoor Steam Centre had that in mind as a possible use for one of their NG16s which had a very poor boiler, so I presume it is feasible, though I wonder if a 2-6-2 tender engine might be a better option,

None were sold as far as I know - the two Quarry Hunslets completed at Statfold in 2005 are still there.

I have no idea, unfortunately - I'm not privy to those particular details! I just wanted to clarify to Keith that it was indeed two new-builds that they sold :)

Faith (the Gartell style loco at Woody Bay) is/was on the market for around £140,000. The new build prices from North Bay Engineering are very competitive, but that's new build

Just had a scan through the accounts for Kew Bridge and, if I've read it correctly (which I probably haven't!), in 2008/9 Thomas Wicksteed cost £79,271

If that figure is correct, then I would guess that the equivalent loco today would cost circa £100k

Thomas Wicksteed was brand new in 2009, built by Statfold.

I seem to recall that Kew were building their own Wren, perhaps feeling confident having designed and built a replacement welded multi-piece boiler for Cloister, the quarry Hunslet then owned by Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Trust and now at Statfold. Somewhere I've pix taken in their workshop, but I think they produced reversible cylinder patterns to avoid having separate left and right blind end bored ones. I'm sure a rolling chassis became a reality.

So is this what became Thomas Wiksteed? Statfold might have done enough of a rework to class the whole as it's own. Hopefully someone can advise.

I know the chap who did most of the work, including the design, when he was at Kew, but won't be seeing him for a while due to the current situation.

It was a new engine so not any good if you wanted to buy that one but it’s second hand now so they might not want it. Is it running?
