Do the wheels of the clan match another type so you could build 2 with a slightly different body?

Might a spot of thread cross-pollination perhaps suggest a "BR Inspired Garratt"? Please, not a SG version of the bobawful Australian monstrosities!

Anyone out there any good with 'Photoshop'? :D

I take it you mean the ASG (Australian Standard Garratt)? They certainly do look ungainly buggers...

A ‘slightly different body’? What’s that supposed to mean - a streamlined Clan ?!

OK, bringing the conversation back down to reality........ Keith has done a fantastic job in adding the cylinders to the 3D CAD model - you can see the results on

    https://www.theclanproject.org/Clan_News.php

This has come out of the work Keith is doing with our Tony, our cylinder pattern maker. Tony is helping me to write a piece on the place of "cores" and "prints" in pattern making. You can see the start here

Latest news is that the bogie stretcher casting is on one of the machines at CTL Seal. Once machining is complete we can start to think about assembly of the bogie frame.

Very interesting links, Thank You for posting these. Not being an Engineer, it's nice to be able to learn something of pattern-making and casting procedures.

I am amazed how much you are managing to get done in the circumstances. And your website is always informative to read.

when you do finish it, of course, you do keep on saying how much commonality there is with Duke of Gloucester... I'm sure you could knock another one of them out nice and easily...:D

Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to know that we're explaining what is going on. The big advantage for us is being based at CTL Seal and the enthusiastic team they have there. With these big machoines it's not difficult to maintain social distancing. There's a lot of work in progress currently

    1. Bogie Stretcher Casting
    2. Bogie centre Slide
    3. 8 off bogie axlebox guides
    4. 2 off Trailing truck bolster
    5. 4 off Bogie Frame Keep
    6. 2 off rearmost Spring Hanger
    7. 2 off Side control spring beams

We're about to place orders for the Hing Beam gussets (2 off) and the Intermediate Rubbing Block - that sits in the middle of the hind beam. Item 6 was a challenge as no drawings are available. However we were able to measure 71000 which has the same frame design and create our own drawing. For items, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, the parts have been cast and the machining work is in progress.

Now we need you to help us manufacture the bogie cannon boxes, axles and types - the wheels are in stock!

    Great stuff!

Just two quick questions - can you say anything about how the foundry rectified the splay on the bogie casting - presumably it couldn't be machined or CT Seal could do it for you
Second - you show the Duke of Gloucester bogie and say the clan bogie is "similar". Is it possible to indicate the differences? I would have thought the class 6/7/8 pacifics would share the same bogie design (or is that too simplistic)
