Some truly stunning shots there. Thanks!

The more I look the more I think how incredible it is that the line is still there.

Looking forwards to getting back over to the west coast later in the year.

Indeed. Brilliant images and locations. All be aware though that when/if the thread returns to news about the trains then this block of past images will be moved to the photography section under a separate heading so that they are not lost to later viewers and get confused with contemporary information.

Two of my favourites and slightly less 'usual' shots, both taken at Loch Nan Uamh!

Looking at all these excellent shots I will say that they all deserve 'likes' and most of them higher praise than that, 'super like'?

Steam_mad's Loch Nan Umnah shot but from above. We persuaded them to turn the K1 for a couple of days after the charter in 2013 ( I think it may have cost a few drinks in the Grog) and run without the Jacobite headboard. A well know WC fireman and NP contributor is seen looking out from the cab.

With shots from the Charters and the Glasgow line having been included this thread has developed into a general West Highland showcase so here is one from the very early days of steam returning to the Mallaig line.

The same train between beasdale Tunnels 3 & 4. The gradient here is 1 in 50 and unusually the steam sanders aren't on

I think WC have got this right, prepare for when the lockdown finishes but revise things as the situation develops. It looks as if coach tour companies and some airlines are doing the same and EasyJet are intending to resume flights to some European destinations on 15th June.

    673 at Glenfinnan 20 July 1984.
I think this was a training trip before the service proper started a week or two later. I can't remember how the details of this odd trip penetrated to the Southern Region in time to book leave and head north. It just proves how good the railway grapevine was before modern technology.

    Cheers, Neil
