Work has started on casting the supporting blocks for the platform sections. Plenty more to make so the cement mixer will be busy for a while. Details on the blog.

Like many heritage railways we rely heavily on our retired members for midweek sessions. The advice to stay at home for the 'less young' will have a big impact on our railway. As already noted CHR has declared there will be no public operations in April and probably beyond that.

Inspite of all of the gloom a small group of volunteers were determined to bring a smile to your faces. Here are the first sleepers going down on the station approaches.

    Nice load of new rail.
    Is it 54 or 56 kg/m 110 or 113A in old money.

We had a similar delivery a few weeks back but mixed weights.

We hope so! It's probably going to get an extra few months due to the delays in construction.

I will obviously not go into security arrangements but we have close monitoring of the sites and very good neighbours.

Thanks. I believe there’s quite a few parked up the branch? How will they get from Gobowen?

Were they first in line or was a shunt require to extract them?

The units are now stored at Gobowen station. Plans will become clearer in time but these are for the community rail service. Meanwhile the virus appeal for donations continues. Details on the CHR website. Photo: CHR Pacer at Gobowen.JPG
PS I understand that these were selected and shunted to release.

If the class 144s are just left to stand at Gobowen, will the engines be started up from time to time just to turn them over and keep them in running order? Will anything be done to weatherproof the doors and windows to stop leaks, draughts etc as the autumn and winter months approach? Just thinking of what happened to the Bluebell's 4-VEP when left out in the cold some years ago. The seating didn't like the cold damp weather! Will they be used initially on the short run to the halt on the Gobowen side of the road that cannot be crossed on the way to Oswestry?

    Hi Nigelss,

Thanks for your concern regarding the storage of the units at Gobowen. The answers to most of your questions are contained in the expanded story on The Railway Hub at https://www.therailwayhub.co.uk/11694/pacers-delivered-to-gobowen-for-cambrian-heritage-railways/ .

Take it from me, Cambrian Heritage Railways has among its ranks those who have the necessary first-hand experience.

    Hope this helps :)
