I believe that car park was the site of Mallaig shed. The road in front fairly recent, the old road into Mallaig is the first right after the station.

 

The photo charter was normally held the week after the end of the season so we got the added bonus of the empty stock move south, or in the early days, the SRPS railtour to Polmont. 76079 &45407, still carrying their false numbers soon afer leaving Ardlui in 2008. The top end of Loch Lomond in the background

Not very often you see steam and Loch Morar in the same shot, nice one.

 

45212 and 45407 dash through the Clyde valley and just ahead of an approaching snow shower, on their way home at the end of the 2018 season.

 

Indeed it was - we got a good soaking watering the locos at Crianlarich


I was the fireman on 76001 that day. Always felt it was a pity she never went back up there again as she's a cracking engine to work on. At least I still get her these days on the NYMR.
