Locos that didn't even qualify as a 'might have been', but really deserved preservation

the B12s were, I believe, small for that reason

the B12 --S69, was never intended to be anything more than an enlarged Claud with another set of wheels for traction. it was the tender that was shortened to fit the available turntables

the last LNWR 19" goods 4-6-0 went in 1951.

would have been excellent on a preserved railway

The B17's I think it was in Footballer guise used the small B12 type 'Watercart tender.

Footballers usually had group standard tenders surely, it was Sandringham etc which had smaller?

That's my understanding. The Sandringham series were a replacement for the B12's on the Great Eastern and ha the short tenders to enable them to fit on the turntables. The Footballer series were for use throughout the LNER but mainly on the G.C. lines and had Group standard tenders although many of these ended up on G.E. lines
