I used the missus's to have a look, rather interesting, and yes Steam Railway is 506.

This was the relevant conversation. Don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t post it on here as JJP’s and @Sidmouth comments are interesting with regard to Nat Pres and the WSR:

An interesting insight into thought processes. And full credit to @Sidmouth for the diplomacy.

Jolly glad to hear some good news. I'll confess, I actually thought I was on the 'recomissioning' thread when I posted (senior moment), so sorry 'bout that, folks.

The railway yesterday (from facebook page):

Paid a visit to the railway yesterday with the lockdown now eased. The line really looks in a sorry state at the moment, an echo of the early 1970's after BR closed the line. Really hoping with our donations and efforts the railway will be back up and running in the not too distant future.

A sad sight indeed, but wsr.org.uk has some more positive photos of the work done at Minehead by the FOMS in cutting grass and trimming hedges.

    Stained Glass Window

I have been contacted by someone who has saved the following window which was being thrown away from a public house by Weston super Mare train station. If anyone is interested in securing this for use on WSR, please pm me and i'll pass on the contact details.

I have been reading Swanage Railway on this forum. An excellent explanation of their position. Nothing from WSR that is so open and honest to explain their planning. So who deserves help? I know which way my money will go.

The WSR has announced the cancellation of all special events and special trains in 2020. Still hope to run some 'ordinary' passenger trains if possible but not able to give any further details. The announcement is on the front page of the official website (and now on my newspage too).

They don't need any more money, they've made £311,000 profit so obviously everything is OK, loco overhauls can be funded, and no staff will be made redundant...

    See www.wsr.org.uk/news.htm#2051 for latest update.

Links to the online donation pages can be found under the 'Appeals' tab at the top of all pages of wsr.org.uk

    Hope this helps...

As is being discussed on the S&D thread, I believe that the prior year was 15 months and included two winter periods when, Xmas excepted, its likely the railway runs at a loss. The latest accounts are not, so if so therefore its like comparing apples and tomatoes, both are fruit but only one really fits in a fruit salad.

As others have also said, in a time when the railway is presumably keen to maximise cash inflow, its a strange message to send.
Its a pity that the WSR hasn't hired someone who has at least completed Public Relations 101.

But at least they have someone to advise on making good publicity videos. Sorry that was a low blow. :(

A profit isn't cash in the bank. It can be generated by reversing a provision previously made.

Quite. I also have no problem with the idea that this profit is far less than is needed to provide cash in the bank to meet bills with no income. My concern is the mixed messaging and sense of smoke and mirrors due to the changes in reporting period. As others, I will suspend judgment until the detail is visible.
