This is one of my favourites from the Mallaig line.
Not a service train but an LCGB special early in the morning of 2nd September 1989.

We might have seen the train again had a foreign bus driver not managed to find a ditch between Beasdale and Arisaig totally blocking the then still single track road,

On the morning of 29th May 1984 the road to Mallaig was quiet, the SLOA West Highlander had returned south and after the public train the previous day so had most of the photographers who had come to Fort William for the weekend.
So 5407 headed almost unobtrusively alongside Loch Eil with two coaches, empty stock for a special working back from Mallaig later that day.

In view of all the photos of Corrour some might like to see them moving and making a noise (the locos I mean, not the photographers, although some might like to do some "photographer spotting" amongst those I show).

It would be a very long distance shot from Loch Ness, I think you mean Loch Linnie

Or even Loch Lhinne, although it becomes Loch Eil from Corpach.

I know but I’ve never found out where the join is! I assume it’s about where the Lochy river flows into it. The spelling I’ve seen several different ways, I believe the Gaelic is Linne but on maps it’s Linnhe so take your pick

Was just about to ask if the 8F has/does make it up the WHL.

What are the odds of it making it back up any time
    soon?

For those who don't know the line, this is an idea of the climb from Loch Eilt. A long view of the K1 on the grade up from the side of the Loch and I am standing at about the same level of the line at the two Creag Gobhar tunnels, so still a long way to climb
