@biggles200 I can assure you. SR Wareham service will not be operating on Sunday,

nor Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or the following Saturday. In fact I wouldn't be holding my breath for 2020.

    Hi all,

The second film in our SOS appeal series is now live. In this episode, we talk to the South Dorset MP Richard Drax, the Swanage Mayor, Swanage Town Council's Chair of tourism/Chair of the Chamber of Trade and much more.

I hope you find the video interesting and informative. Please share the video as much as possible to spread the message and as ever, any donations would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

A grim old business and I hope the S.R. pulls through. However, the implications of running a "brass plate" company, i.e. one with few assets other than the brass plate on the door of the Registered Office, need thought for the future. It's fine if the business continues to flourish but if the money gets turned off, as is happening now, then rentals and hire fees continue.

If the likely money pit of extending to Wareham could at least be delayed for a period so that revenue could be devoted to acquiring real estate and equipment, then the future of the S.R., which is intrinsically a flourishing business, would be more secure.

The current situation certainly is throwing the difference between those lines running in a reasonably consolidated state and those extended by resource hungry large scale projects into sharp relief. There was never going to be a good time for something like the hiatus caused by Covid-19, as I'm sadly certain we'll see all too clearly on our high streets, once the dust settles. I doubt anyone would claim we could have collectively coped much better give a couple of months' notice. Just as the disruption the whole episode has caused is unprecedented, so will be the recovery process, which is, regrettably, more likely than not, to record it's own 'mortality rate'.

The hard part of Covid-19 is that many people re going to be unemployed in the near future. The countries economy has been hit very hard and the furlough payments will cease. Many small businesses, probably not considered essential to daily life, will fall by the wayside. Those of us with fixed, regular, incomes (i.e. retired and/or wealthy) will be more fortunate. But many in that latter category will be far more conscious of their health which may mean their second thoughts about holidays and visits to tourist attractions. People generally will be far more cautious, I feel, with their expenditure than they have been in the recent past.
I firmly believe that the clock may well be put back a few years as far as shopping and tourism is concerned. Hopefully that will not be too many years.

There is a strange rumour attached to this YouTube

"Welcome back to another video from Spottersuk, Featuring a brand new class 701 for South Western Railway. The service began its journey for the south coast at derby where two class 66 locomotives would transport the New train alongside some brake units for security reasons I could only imagine, the 66's were top and tailed formed of 66740 and 66745 transporting 701002 for Eastleigh Arlington. The class 701's are bound to be replacing the old class 455's and 456's for service in and around London Waterloo, however the class 701's are being tested along the south western mainline between a rumoured Wareham and Swanage railway and also Wareham to Weymouth in the evening time where there isn't any traffic on the tracks."

Online there is not much info except they will be initally be based at Eastleigh and tested by GB Railfreight in July. If the first tests are with diesel locos on quiet lines the rumour to use the Swanage Railway does seem to make sense. But the next tests could be with 3rd rail to Weymouth (which the Swanage line does not have).
