I was told they are designed as part of the energy absorbtion/crumple zone on these vehicles.

A photo has been posted on the RVP Farcebook page showing the maroon one now being rubbed down for a repaint, in case anyone visiting the GCR of late was wondering where it has been "hiding"....

I am really looking forward to seeing the "original" Beaver tail out on the rails again - will it debut on the GCR?

What an absolutely hideous looking contraption. I've commented before, but it looks like someone's built an oversized Lego train and put it on accommodation bogies. Very ungainly-looking and lacking in any form of aesthetics below platform level.

It’s a little better above platform level.

Was that not the Southern Tavern Cars? Or did they have the small windows to try to stop people lingering?

The fixed seating in the 'Elizabethan' buffet lounge vehicles was similarly uncomfortable. We have reproduced this in 1706 using Doncaster drawings, and the seating is definitely not for long term use.

According to the RVP report in the latest Main Line magazine (183) the LNER beavertail B1729 is still at Nemesis Rail. The restoration is nearly finished as the exterior painting is nearly completed and the stainless steel trim is being applied after polishing. So a nice re-launch in the Autumn?

Well, I got my stuff cleared away from Burton before lockdown and I'm not missing the long commute (only getting a tank of diesel once a fortnight instead of three times). Been busy in solitude making a new body for a fish van meanwhile. I've still got a couple of trips down to complete some odds and ends of some point.

I'm pleased with how its worked out. It will be breathtaking. No the unveiling hasn't been finalised.
I won't be posting any photos until after the unveiling.

Read from above, Id say it's where RVP's based.

To be fair, I’m an RVP member and I have no clue. They have been very carefully non-committal on this subject. I suspect railways will be queuing up to hire it anyway.

I appreciate what information I've seen and heard about it was from some time ago things could well have changed as these things tend to!
As you say there'd be a queue of places that would love to hire it.
But it would make sense that a certain railway is looking to hire in an A4...

No that's 1729a (aka mini beavertail) next to 1729.

And a damned fine bit of model making too, having seen it in the flesh, by Sawdust. Having made it to figure out all those curves and angles needed on the 1:1 version.
