Rannoch is an interesting destination, Crianlarich is positively urban compared with what’s on offer at Rannoch!

Crianlarich and urban, two words I would never have expected to have ever seen in the same sentence :)

It's that urban it needed a bypass. Probably a ring road will be coming next! :)

That's what I said! It just needs a ring road so that Stirling traffic doesn't have to clog up the city streets. :)

Or a direct rail link! Wouldn't that be novel, could even route it down Glen Ogle on those curiously placed walking trail viaducts. ;)

Personally I had hoped the photos would make the move to the photography section, but perhaps pinned, when the Jacobite was to restart.
A celebration of the past, but the "What's going on" thread should be a celebration of the current season and I'm sure a lot of us will be celebrating in a massive way in little under a month's time....

After all, the photographic thread remains open. We can add to it as we take the shots that would be appropriate to the annual Jacobite thread also. Perhaps as each annual thread is started, a link to the photographic conversation is included to highlight what has come before?

In my experience posts in the photographic section see less visits that photographic posts attached to threads in the more frequently visited sections.

That comment is a cop out.

On What's Going On (WGO) people will visit the thread who travelled the train that day and want to see what others saw plus of course the videos that show them what they couldn't necessarily have seen from the train. Then there will be those who just wanted to see what people took on the day, or if they were a photographer on the day what other photographers took. Then there will be people who just want to look at the pictures. On top of that will be the comments about the trip itself and maybe anecdotes from on board etc. So quite a few reasons.

People visit the photography thread to look at photographs. In the case of the Jacobite, because the Jacobite is arguably special there is now somewhere new that people can go and find quickly a whole host of images and comments from previous occasions without the usual extra chunter about, for example, why the fire risk meant that steam was replaced. All that stuff isn't there. It's pure photography.

So why does it matter if the photography section gets less visits than WGO? Presumably grown up people know where to look for what they want especially if they have been told. The clue to what's in each thread is in the thread title. For example, assuming that we get to The Jacobite 2021, is it not reasonable to expect that it wouldn't contain pictures from The Jacobite 2020?

I suppose, and this is clutching at straws now, one reason why it might possibly matter to some people if there were less visits to the Photography section than WGO could be from those photographers who feel that their images are not getting the exposure that they would like. But that's a whole different matter.

To me it’s simple. I regularly post videos (while I used to until the current crisis) and my policy is to post the video in the relevant thread in What’s Going On and then post it in the Photography thread. Two posts that cover all the bases.

Precisely. And for those who take photographs, in the case of The Jacobite, they will now be able to select the few that they cherish the most from current images and, if they wish, also pop them into the dedicated thread in Photography. Over time an archive of high quality images will grow and be accessible by all, whenever they like and free from other chat. The nature of this particular train and the environment it runs through does merit an exception being made for these lovely images.

As for the poll that has appeared recently, members will know that moderation involves housekeeping activities linked to Content Standards and this includes ensuring that posts sit in the most appropriate place. So by all means get this poll out of your system but be aware that moderators have already discussed how the Jacobite images should be managed.
