I just found this: might be stuff of interest there to various railways around the country.

Thanks. Who would want to be an accredited museum? I wonder what creative statements they are expecting for how the new owner intends that the random firebars (to take an example), will benefit the public and their proposal for their long term care. One assumes that they are simply going through the motions and will quietly dispose of it for cash or to the skip in due course.

Quite a few are, or are in process of applying.

I don't know much about the process for disposing of items from the collection, but I'm surprised by the list. 2 of those wagons are I believe unique, and the Barnum is only one of 4 I think?

Thanks. I tried to search for that yesterday but couldn't find it. Hadn't realised the 16T mineral wagon is one of the SNCF examples, as I thought that might be a significant display item at the NRM.
Not surprised they are disposing of that painting of the Vulcan.........

Having recalled their "Barnum" from the GCR[N] and now offering it for disposal. Will the Great Central guys be going after it once more to re-add to their short fleet [of 4 I think/believe] .

From what I have read on the GCR RST FB page in the past, the NRM hadn't renewed the loan agreement on it after it expired (literally) years ago. It was supposed to be restored (presumably in the NRMs budget) for the Leicester NRM branch, which got cancelled, so, as the GCR RST have three of their own Barnums to (struggle to) raise money for and restore, they weren't interested in another....
Interestingly, looking at their very informative new website yesterday, it states the NRM Barnum was moved from Ruddington in December, to Quorn of all places...

Presumably a "watch this space" one!

Thanks for that. Though I take the view of "never say never!" There's always tomorrow if you get my meaning........even if the carriage is put into some sort of long term storage, for future restoration.

Is unique a reason for teh NRM to keep an unrestore vehicle they have no plans for?

It would be nice if the SNCF 16ton wagon went to the Windcutter group, as it would add some variation to their rake, and they have the expertise to look after it.

The brake and mineral wagon are quite interesting - I can see the former being highly sought after. Is that the one at Embsay?

For those who haven't seen the document, there's also a Crane and an 0-4-0 Hudswell Clarke "Handyman"

Groups who applied for items in the June/August NRM disposal seem to be being notified at the moment whether they were succesful or not. Mountsorrel applied for the GCR bolster but that has obviously gone somewhere else from the e-mail they received today....

Latest Steam Railway states that the GCR bolster wagon has gone to the North Tyneside Steam Railway Association, so the news finally appeared 18 months after the unsuccesful applicants were informed.
Seems to be being publicised as a "Tyne Improvement Commission Bolster wagon (built for the GCR)" rather than a GCR one now though.....

Last revenue service was for TIC and provides a specific example of local rail history in a collection which seeks to represent the area's past.

Given the lack of preserved GCR rolling stock about, I would have thought that a GC related/linked Museum would have been just as eligible for it.
Still, that decision is down to the SMG as they were the owners of it.
