Thanks for the reply Phil. I love a positive story involving a Bulleid :)

I am very glad to see that the locomotive will be in good hands. I went down to have a look at the locomotive last year (whilst taking photographs of the Bulleid Double Decker which is also on site) and recognised much of the work from when I volunteered on the GCR in my 20s. Was sad at the time to see the cab in the long grass together with the tender tank and the boiler. I remember the cab in particular being repainted at the GCR. Strange how things happen. Hopefully the locomotive in due course will join its sisters in steam.

More work has been done at Sellindge and the SLL are planning to have a thorough boiler inspection soon. The specific 35025 fund within the SLL share purchase scheme is proving popular and is showing a healthy growth.

wasn't the decision to sell down to the fact that they would be too big for regular use . After all the effort that went into 35027 it is rather sad that it is almost back to square one . better news for 35025 and I wonder whether SLL may spread their wings more with some engines outstationed away from Swanage

If people keep supporting and donate to the fund, then she must have a good future, As regards hiring etc, i know some will disagree but some of the longer lines that regularly have longer , heavier trains might find an 8P useful , Has an MN ever worked over the NYMR

I do recall a Spamcan there when I did a guarding turn in the 80's but can't recall whether it was a MN, WC or BOB.

Wasn't there a little hint that SLL would be happy to return to the SVR in the future when the SVR exercised the break in the contract with 34053?
Have to say SLL seem to be rather happy to let their locos out to play, Certainly 34053's visited quite a few railways.

Yes I think SLL will certainly be spreading their wings. Swanage simply does not need yet another Bulleid, especially with all the other locos now based there. Swanage have made clear in the past that they consider MNs too big for the line, which was a major factor in the decision to sell 35022 and 35027.

The move of 34053 to Spa valley seems to indicate a spreading of wings.

I think 34072 ran at the NYMR for a while in the early nineties. Not aware of one being there in the eighties though.

IIRC 34028 went on loan to the NYMR shortly after she returned to steam, but I think she was stopped with worn tyres after a relatively short time.

Certainly it would be good to see Brocklebank running on the GCR, together with Boscastle and a BoB to make the set for a gala!

I think she moved to Bluebell shortly after where the work was done and she then spent a year there before returning to Swanage.

When work does properly restart on 35025, it'll be good to see that all the surviving Merchants will have a bright future.

i think we are going to have to wait a while to see 35025 in action others to do before 35025

If you saw a Merchant Navy in original spamcan form in the 80s, you must have been ingesting a very interesting substance.

    to-have-operated 'spamcans' are :
    34007 Wadebridge
    34023 Blackmore Vale
    34067 Tangmere
    34070 Manston
    34072 257 Squadron
    34081 92 Squadron
    34092 City of Wells
    34105 Swanage

I've not seen any of these work on NYMR (only rebuilds 34027 & 34101) but it would be good to know which ones have and haven't?

I think Tangmere too, but I'm not 100% certain. As for the rest yes they've ran on the NYMR.

257 Squadron being the 1st in 1991. Operated alongside 34027.
