Apologies for jumping on the bandwagon .... but why not!!
To plagiarise a footnote utilised on some other websites ……”Persons who attend Stalybridge and Stockport also attend the following” …………..

    IRWELL VALE RAILWAY PHOTOGRAPHERS

The 15th season of railway presentations, held monthly in this, one of the most idyllic parts of Rossendale, has, during the course of the past few months, already included guest appearances by such celebrated photographers as Gavin Morrison and Peter Fitton, these eminent gentlemen setting a standard for excellence that, given what is still in store for the remainder of the programme, seems very likely to continue.

    Saturday 17th January 2009 - “Steam Miscellany”.
Immediately following the end of a year that commemorated, in no uncertain fashion, the 40th anniversary of the very end of BR steam, tonight we will be treated to some idyllic scenes from the preceding decade, as portrayed through the colour and B&W work of that well-known documenter of Lancastrian steam, the late Eric Bentley. This show is presented by Barry Atkinson.

Saturday 14th February 2009 - “Shed Bashing in the 1960s” by Arthur J Hall. Remember the early 1960s and all those shed visits, often travelling overnight, by coach to far-flung outposts of the network? Offers to participate in such excursions filled the advert pages of all the magazines of the period and Arthur was one organiser of such tours. During his forays to seek out the more elusive numbers in his 'ABC', he also took many photographs and tonight’s show encompasses in particular the various visits he made to Southern and London Midland Region depots.

Saturday 14th March 2009 “The End of an Era” by John Leck.
John advises that this show will be the very last one that he will present. Promised treats in store for this such special occasion will include high-quality medium-format scenes from the USA, South Africa and, of course, the UK.

The venue is the Irwell Vale Village Church, which is situated a mere 2 minutes walk from the car park of Irwell Vale Station on the East Lancs Railway.
(For those that have not visited the area before, Irwell Vale village is situated about 1km from the B6257 Edenfield to Haslingden Road - a clearly sign-posted left turn located a few yards after passing over the ELR over-bridge close to the former Ewood Bridge Station.) The church itself is facing you at the end of Bowker Street (the street with the pretty terraced cottages - straight ahead after crossing the narrow river bridge as you enter the village). Approach the church by the footpath leading to a door on the right-hand side.

All are welcome and the admission charge of £3.00 does also include entry to a raffle, as well as a complimentary cup of tea or coffee upon arrival and, for a further £2.00, pie and peas will be provided by the ladies from the Church during the interval.

All events commence at 7-30pm prompt, but the doors will be open from 7-00pm with the tea-room serving refreshments and, during which time, hardened line-siders and gricers usually get-together for a good natter!
