There's a Bradford City plate at Valley Parade - or whatever marketing name it's carrying this season...

It is being worked upon as resources permit but the priority at the moment is to get 45428 up and running. Once this is done, things should speed up considerably.

When I lived in Bodmin in the '70's, there was a crest (can't remember there being a nameplate) in the Town Hall, but it later disappeared and I was told that it had been sent 'to the people restoring the engine' - was it ever used on 34016?

It has definitely been stripped down pending the overhaul. The cab is currently on a bolster wagon gathering moss at Grosmont, but I'm sure it won't be too long before it's storming Goathland bank again. I hope they put a Bulleid whistle on it this time, as the chime whistle doesn't seem to suit the locomotive... I'm quite attached to this locomotive as it was my first Bulleid. Shame it has no chance of going to the Eastleigh 100 event, as it is the only surviving preserved light pacific to have been built there. Only six were constructed at Eastleigh, with the rest being done at Brighton, although I sometimes wonder why? Was it to do with Brighton being worked to capacity? The locos done at Eastleigh were: 34085;87; 89; 34101; 102 and 104.

I take it you are talking about WC's? I think 10 MN's were built at Eastleigh?
Weren't alot of the WC's and MN's converted at Eastleigh during the programme? Maybe someone can give me the numbers?

Or even, which MN's were not built at Eastleigh?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all of the rebuilding was done at Eastleigh as by the late 1950's Brighton was being run down. When did it close?

All the rebuilding was done at Eastleigh, as was the original construction of all 30 "Merchants".
Brighton's last engine to be built was 80154, which was completed in March 1957. Repairs ceased the following year and everything was closed in 1962 (although what wemt on between 1958 and 1962 I have no idea)

The WC/BB's that were rebuilt were 34001/3-5/8-10/12-14/15-18/21-22/24-29/31-2/34/36-7/39-40/42/44-48/50/52-53/56/58-60/62/71/77/82/85/87-90/93/95-98/100-101/104/108-109.
The Merchants were rebuilt between 1956 and 1959, the first being 35018 British India Line, the last being 35028 Clan Line. The first light pacific to be rebuilt was 34005 Barnstaple in 1957, the last one being 34104 Bere Alston in 1961. 34109 was rebuilt in 1961 and withdrawn only three years later. What a a waste!

Yes, well as a matter of fact there was an even shorter lived re-build than 34109. 34096 Trevone.

Yes that's right, the six were all WCs. The rest and the BBs were Brighton-built. I'm not including MNs, as they were exclusively an Eastleigh phenomenon! Nor am I counting the rebuilding programme.

Yet you have these that were converted and a waste, but that was part of the plan to save money and withdrawn; however sad that is a few years later! But look at those that are around today! Although saying this I do see where you are coming from!

I'm sorry, I've come back to this after a good night's sleep and I still don't quite get what point you are trying to make?

Sorry I've been on training for a whole week and I am knackered! I'll strip my last sentence so that it makes some sense to you.

You have these that were converted and then wasted and scrapped a few years later. But that was part of the plan to save money! So withdrawn locos a few years later was a milepost in no uncertain terms!
However sad that is... But look at those that are around today and running and will remain running or in the queue for return to steam!??
Just shows what wonderful locos they were and what enjoyment they are! I will always be a Bulleid fan through and through!

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but SLlt have put on their website that 34053 "Sir Keith Park" *could* be in steam by next year, funds permitting.

    http://www.southern-locomotives.co.uk/news.php

Double headers with 34059 at Bluebell anyone? =P~

Great news though, one minute no running rebuilt BoB's, the next minute there could be two operational next year! \:D/

I suitable tribute in the 70th Anniversary year of the Battle of Britain - to have the locomotive named after the brilliant commanding officer of 11 Group RAF Fighter Command back in steam.

    Regards,

    Dan
