Always looked forward to seeing the freight train out over a gala weekend. Specially when a visiting loco made an appearance on it.

Be interesting to see how No.1 fairs on a service train, surprised shes not on the countryman as its less coaches, I expect a bit of diesel assistance on No.1 set.

In other news, Yesterday the new Coach Jacks in the Carriage shop where commissioned, Lion celebrated the anniversary of her last BR train and 08288 moved under her own power for the first time after a complete re-wire and partially through a repaint. So quite busy yesterday

Busy day today as well. 499 was lifted off its trailing wheelset and the 2 others retrieved from their hiding place. Crane driver was dam' good, as some of the pics show:

First time the LHS has seen daylight in years!
Also it looked as though 76017 has had a steam test.

The countryman will be running as a 6 coach set hence not putting No1. On that train.

It would be pushing it to run any more. The 1972 Sectional Appendix says this about the loop at Alresford: 'Standage L & V' as 17. 17 would equate to 17 slu in modern parlance (1 slu = 21 feet); L & V is Loco and Guards Van. Resignalling since the line was taken over from BR has probably eaten into that 17 anyway.
The longest freight I remember was not a public event - 22 loaded Dogfish from Merehead Quarry. T n' T by 90775 and 25067, from Alton to Medstead. Could be the heaviest ever, I imagine: I estimate 1,060 tons (Locos included, of course.)

I think there are at least another 6 or 7 in development....creative juices do not seem to be drying just yet, which is great news.

That makes so much sense. If you are going to pause somewhere then Ropley is the place. A good plan.

... and the Watercress Line has re-opened.

The Ivatt departs Alresford at 11am with the first public up departure following the Covid Shutdown.
Snapped from the Facebook Live Stream.
Thanks to the Watercress Line for live streaming this for those of us who couldn't get down there today.
