That is precisely my point. People will spend what they have on the things they prefer. But they will also spend on things they didn't know they preferred, if your marketing team is good enough! As it was ever thus in railways.

But people have to be motivated to part with their money. A work colleague of mine read something about the A1 Trust in a newspaper and asked me about it. He wasn’t an enthusiast but remembered the A1s from his childhood in York and became a Covenanter.
That money would have never been put to any other railway cause and I’m sure he’s not alone.

How has this appeal gone? Im going to assume plans for the loco to return in time for the games have been shelved due to the work load at Tyseley. However I hope the plans for this loco haven't also been shelved

I'm reckoning that Tyseley steam loco trust just like 5080 Defiant castle i suspect the shareholders members money of Tyseley to raise for 5593 overhaul, and thus that Tyseley loco works have many locos and outside contract overhaul work outstanding on their books such as 78019,s boiler a few of the southern reigion pacifics like Manston 34028 eddy stone just to name a few 6880 betton grange now been overhauled at tyseley for a new tender to be built for it, also 5043 needing a new superheater header element it must be alot for the engineers at Tyseley loco works to be concentrating their effort so they can only do so much work at a time on each loco or tanky Tyseley have on their overhaul books. So that's my guess why it's been so quiet about 5593, and also there are 3 jubes aready running, it's like to me asking the same question would 5080 or 4936 or 4965 be ever overhauled again depending on if funds are there to do so.

2021 has been an excellent year for 5XPs on the main line. I hope 5593 gets its turn one day.

The loco works certainly looked very full yesterday that's for sure. I doubt there will be any work on Kolhapur until 5043 is complete, but we still have other favourites to return.
Whilst we couldn't get very close, 6880 and 71000 looked the closest to completion and I understand 7812 passed its out of frames test this week. These 3 should all steam within the next 6 months.
5043 is scheduled to return next year too, but has been delayed with 7029 borrowing its superheater header, so we shall see what happens with 5593 after that (with some space available!).
I believe 5080 has its own separate appeal. 4936 is also under overhaul there, so we will also see a Hall return to the mainline in the not too distant future.
All the above locos (bar 7812), will be for the mainline, certainly a bright future.

4965 is currently stored (undercover) with no immediate plans that I'm aware of.

Hope it doesn't take as long as the Bloomer :)

Well it's the nearest of the single wheeler loco,s (replica) L.N.W. grand junction Bloomer to be running when if H.S.2 reaches Birmingham and gets commissioned for running no chance of the Stirling single wheeler ever running again or Cornwall.

The issue with Hall's remains the gauging . What happens with 4936 will be interesting as to whether the costs of mainline fitting can be recovered through operation

Even more interesting if it can’t run at its home railway due to the weight restriction there. On the mainline I do think you need to be brave to run an ex GWR two cylinder engine given all the gauging issues these days.

And to celebrate the Premier Route's importance in connecting London with Glasgow, CR 123 would be nice as well...

They seem to have managed to keep the Stratford route clear for Halls, so even if it remains dedicated to Shakespeare's that is a fair chunk of work & was 4965's bread and butter.
4936 already has all the mainline gizmos fitted, so no further costs here.
How gauge friendly will 6880 be?
