You know that, I know that. But the casual reader doesn’t always. Words have power; it’s not just sticks and stones that break bones.

There is of course the money that would have been used to buy the freehold. Where is it ? Let's assume it either never existed or was to be private money (which in turn raises some uncomfortable questions), other companies raise cash through the issue of shares so where is the appeal to buy shares ? Where is the effort to maximise what opportunities there are ? Do people seriously believe that almost every other railway has got it wrong and somehow the WSR's "do little" strategy is right ?

It's all rather odd don't you think ? If there is a genuine reason for simply box ticking then please enlighten us. You do talk to one of the board's special advisors so you must have some sort of insight.

An earlier post, as far as I recall, hinted that there was no money for the purchase of the freehold, but once the sale was agreed for the purchase it would - in one way or another - become available.

To be honest, this forum should not be the place for personal attacks such as this. The mods have made that very clear.
    You should delete your post.

I wouldn’t worry too much Ian.
If this carries on, I suspect the mods will delete the account.

That doesn't strike me as a personal attack, just an honest opinion.

Have you told that to people who make personal attacks on those who are critical of the PLC board?

I'm a little more concerned by the fact that apparently they bought some stuff from the Gauge Museum...anyone checked that the Sleeping Car is still there ? :)

It would be even better for the railway if the mods close down and delete the whole of West Somerset Railway Operations.

The problems with the West Somerset Railway are not caused by the existence of this thread. Not even NatPres is that powerful. They are entirely of the WSR's own making. Trying to shut down everywhere where the problems are being discussed is akin to Donald Trump's brilliant revelation that America wouldn't have any coronavirus cases or deaths if they simply stopped testing people.
Where the discussion here tips towards personal insults the mods have been quick to act, allowing this thread to stay open. For that I am thankful. I am also reminded of the instrumental role NatPres played in ousting the X6. If the same attitude had been taken then and the X6 not removed the WSR would be in even more of a state than it is currently in.
Also, this is a discussion forum for railway enthusiasts. It's inevitable that the WSR, as a large eritage railway, will have a thread. It's then also inevitable that discussion will turn to its pressing problems.

Censorship may be all well and good for Facebook, where anyone not agreeing with those who maintain the pages is evicted (sounds familiar? ;)) but it is unlikely that Nat Pres would resort to censorship. The Mods run a tight ship - many of us sail close to the wind at times - however those who continue infringe NP rules are warned and as we have seen just this week they have have their Membership removed. NP is a Membership of folk concerned and interested in all railways, it is quite different to that chat type of place which seems to be what Facebook is.

Ratner, or not, I am sure there are those who have put their money elsewhere as they see their donation being used as they would wish.
Quite a few posters have said they would not support the WSR financially.

Correct. The most likely scenario is that the purchase of the freehold was to be financed by a mortgage on the land, so there was never any money to be spent on anything else.

I suspect to repeat the gist of what was said by the OP might be to incur the wrath of the mods. Suffice to say, a new poster being not complimentary about the plc chairman, using a fairly robust mode of speech.

True, but there does seem to be a pattern here, where a member of Nat Pres who is either a new member or is new to this thread, will pop up, sing a brief paean of praise to the management of the WSR, hurl some abuse at those critical of said management, imply that the critics are somehow responsible fr the railway's problems, pronounce themselves disgusted and then disappear, never to be seen again. They also share the same loose command of grammar and spelling.
Edit, after Tom's post above: Mind you the same behaviour can be observed from those critical of the management. OTOH, these posts tend to have a short shelf life.
Thanks, Tom for clearing that up.
