Fair enough, I can't compel you! :) I only asked as you implied you wouldn't be posting again at all, but you have done so.

There are only two types of disappearing posts here:
    1. Where a user edits out the text of the post.
    2. Where a post breaks the forum rules or is related to the aforementioned post (a reply or quotes the removed post usually).

It’s quite interesting that again a press release has been removed from somewhere. Seems to be a lot of crossed wires in Somerset.

Totally off topic but I currently have a post that falls into category 2. Nobody else can see it but I can.

Any chance of removing it Pete?
It’s in the English Riviera Express 2020 thread.

Apologies, I’ve just looked and it’s been left in the unapproved posts. I have removed it as requested, that should solve it!

Are you saying that Bob Meanley has resigned from the plc Board? Can we just pause all the nonsense on this thread and reflect on that for a moment?

First of all, I hope that nobody is going to even start thinking about something to say that might be seen as critical of the man, either as a person but also as an engineer and manager. Against any measure he is a top drawer person.

The fact that he agreed to do missionary work on the West Somerset Railway was remarkable but definitely a plus for the Railway. He must have added immense value to the skill set already present on the line.

Now is definitely not the time to leave an organisation in so much difficulty. Having just heard the rumour on here, I can't think of a worse time for him to go. There will have to be a reason and maybe he will find a way of saying why without inflaming the current situation.

All I hope is that when the formal announcement appears in public it is simply factual without any 'commentary' from the remaining Board members. They will be playing with fire if that doesn't happen.

If I recall correctly, Bob Meanley was also the Director for Infrastructure. How will this pan out with the outstanding track work?

Quite. A lot of knowledge and experience lost there but... living within a few miles of Bob I know just how far it is to Minehead so totally understandable!

Correct. I'm increasingly suspicious that the state of the P'way, both physically and the "behind the scenes" stuff, is the sole or main reason the WSR isn't even attempting to run trains this year, and everything else is window dressing. I don't buy the financial arguments, either they're cover, or I concede they might be genuinely held, albeit wrongly IMHO.

Bob Meanley is a titanic figure in the industry and is a huge loss to the WSR. He leaves a rather large hole behind him - a replacement will be extremely difficult, but essential ASAP.

Bob Meanley I agree is a top draw person, and his experience speaks for its self, you certainly won't see me being critical of him,
I just hope the board don't try to use his departure as a diversion, by in some way trying to blame him for their own mistakes.

I think we should wait until the announcement is made public before we engage in too much speculation. It is entirely possible that Mr Meanley has resigned as a Director, but still retains his post as Chief Mechanical Engineer.

The document was issued as a Press Release. Such things usually therefore are for public consumption, but there has already been criticism of the fact that the information has been shared, so I'm not going to post it here. As I said before, hopefully it will make it's way thru' to Mr E in due course.
Suffice to say that it is clear to say that Bob has indeed left the railway to spend more time with his family, essentially as it had become too difficult to do all the commuting necessary between home and Minehead.
Not the best of news for the WSR at this difficult time.

As @aldfort pointed out earlier, skilled board members are hard to find. A loss for the WSR at a critical time.

There's a right way and a wrong way to discuss things.

The discussions here do nothing to help the railway so as far as I'm concerned the wrong way.
