Very much doubt it will be Tornado as it’s at 10A

  2. Britannia ran as 70022 Tornado to Carmarthen on Wednesday. It might still be in this guise today.

Given a fair wind I will probably hear its whistle, but I can't go to see it.

Thanks, though I had wondered why did I bother when the rain hammered down, at least it had stopped when the train turned up.

My footage of 70022 Tornado (Or should I say 70000 Britannia) storming up Whiteball Bank in the morning. Enjoy.

My video of The English Riviera Express with 70000 Britannia (running as 70022 Tornado) taken at Whiteball (near Beam Bridge) and Tiverton Parkway.

Excellent return run today. Very good climb of Whiteball seemingly unassisted from what we could see towards the rear of the train, a member of the support crew also confirmed that there was no assistance. Will double check times and speeds tomorrow but Exeter (P5) - MP 174 (pass to pass) was achieved in just over 20 mins with a minimum of 55mph. It was also nice to have a run across the levels from Taunton at 75 without catching anything in the Highbridge area. Thanks to LSL and all involved for running the train today, it was most enjoyable.

Exeter to MP174: 20 mins 3 sec, load: 11+cl47, 497.5 tare, 505 gross. 23rd out of 41 recorded non stop runs through Exeter, heaviest load of all such trains. A very fine run. Thanks to all at LSL, including Driver Fred Lewis (I'm afraid I don't know the fireman but he certainly supplied plenty of steam).

Yes, 500 tons gross in 20 mins is a pretty impressive effort for a Class 7. Have had a Class 8 with 455 tons in 18 min 22 sec but that's not 'like with like'. The most remarkable run was a Class 8 with 13 plus a Class 66 = 615 gross. (We know the diesel was dead because its driver was on the footplate.) Starting out of EXD that was 25 min 40 sec to MP 174.

But you did say that Fred Lewis was driving so there's your answer. :)
