Hawker Sea Fury G-INVN, operated by the Norwegian Historic Flight, crash landed near Harston, Cambs this afternoon having departed Duxford earlier. Believed to have suffered engine failure, it's a bit of a mess, but apparently the two crew got away with minor injuries.

And not the first time it's crashed into trees and split into sections, so hopefully it'll be repaired again. Glad the crew are ok though.

I wonder what a "false landing" is?

What the Sea Fury did yesterday. :)
Suspect it should be "forced landing" but someone wasn't listening properly when they were transcribing the report.

Ohh dear, this is on my "still to photograph" list, if ever airshows start again. Maybe by the time they do........

That's what is being stated on all the news pages, but they all seem to be copied from each other.

Airshows have already started. The Shuttleworth Collection has already staged two "drive in" airshows. Seem to have been quite successful.

Isn't where they go to touch-down, but miss and remain hovering about 15ft above the ground indefinitely
....makes it a right pain for the pilot to get out until ground crew find a longer ladder - hence why these air types aim to always get true landings and minimise false ones.

    Official statement from the operators:

"Yesterday afternoon, Norwegian Spitfire Foundation operated Hawker Sea Fury T.20 G-INVN WG655 had to make a forced landing due to an engine failure. Chief pilot Eskil Amdal did a very good job getting the aircraft down. Eskil and his passenger suffered only minor injuries."

Strangely the same aircraft crashed in a similar manner in 1990 and at the time was due to be written off as damaged beyond repair. Some details of that accident here:
    https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/156039

It was eventually rebuilt and flown again. The Bristol Centaurus engine was swapped for a Pratt and Whitney engine in 2018, ironically because it was considered more reliable.

Hopefully she will be rebuilt again and fly once more.

Isn't this machine a former fleet air arm museum aircraft ? As others have said, she was supposing written off,, but then rebuilt in the US , If its the same machine . there are several in the US, that were used for racing that were fitted with the P&W Powerplant .
