Are we going to see 4953 Pitchford Hall on the mainline sometime soon?

Not personally, it's normally the done thing to have a test run to get a new mainline ticket after an overhaul mind, so im going more on "the usual procedure" than anything actually being set (at least widely known anyway).

5043 over Shap would have been the highlight for me as well if it didn't come right in the middle of D1015's three day trip to Inverness and Kyle :smt093

I note that uksteam.info is now showing 5029 from Tyseley to Hereford on The Welsh Marches Express on 11th April and 5043 from Hereford to Tyseley. Since 5029 is scheduled to work from Penzance to Bristol on The Great Britain II just four days earlier, there appears to be quite a lot more light engine movements to get the locos in position than there would be if if the locos were reversed (i.e. 5029 from Bristol to Tyseley and 5043 from Tyseley to Hereford, rather than just 5029 from Bristol to Hereford).

So how does the train work Hereford - Newport - Hereford? Does the train actually turn at Newport?

Can't find my track diagrams, but there is a triangle for the engines to run round at Newport.

it is usually just the loco not the train that turns on the Maindee Triangle

There are actually three triangles at Newport, but engines are normally turned on the Maindee triangle just east of the station. The others are Gaer Jc-Park Jc-Ebbw Jc, and within the sidings at Alexandra Dock Jc-Waterloo Loop Jc-East Mendalgief.

Yes, sorry, I know Newport has triangles but is the train going into Newport Station and the loco turning? I assume this is the case and not the whole train being turned? The thing that I wondered about is initially was Abergavenny is shown on the outbound route but not the return but it seems it must return by the same route, doesn't it?

When VT ran 2 Halls to Newport the train was left in the station whilst the engines went off to turn, I guess the same will happen this time.

I booked for 60007 today and was told they only have 8 seats left. So if you're thinking about travelling...
