On the back burner for now. As has been said before, it's not needed to run the timetable and with money and resources now very tight, it won't be a priority.

    We have a re-opening video!

It was great to have some trains running last weekend and get the toys out of the box again, and also to have something to wave at from C+W! This Saturday is already sold out which is encouraging, here's hoping it carries on like that, the more passengers we have the sooner we can have a carriage shed, turntable and P2 buildings for Broadway. :)

I'm booked on the 10:00 out of Toddington tomorrow morning, the first public train since lockdown. My last trip on a heritage railway was back in February (also GWSR) so it's been a long dry spell!.

I'll be in the TSO at the back. Seat 32 if anyone wants to say a socially distanced Hi.

That was clever seeing as we didn't run any trains in February! ;) I shall be in the carriage and wagon waving contingent tomorrow, have a good trip!

You're quite right. I've double-checked the dates and it was 8th March that I was last on the railway. My apologies!

You've been teasing us on the blog with hints about the 'stuff' for weeks now! It better not be another load of old bricks (although I have to admit those came in very useful at Broadway). :)

Fantastic morning on the first train today. A very slick operation, it was clear a lot of planning had been put into it. My thanks to all involved. Back again soon!

Yep, I'll echo what @bleeder4 said (good to see you again btw). I won't add any photos because mine look remarkably similar to those above!

Delighted it went well for you both, it was certainly great to see so many people on the train after so long! :)

    We are open again !

    IMG_20200815_151925919_HDR.jpg

It was good to see a fully booked train again, albeit a shorter one, and with gaps in the sole TSO in the rake. I think at this level we should have a surplus from every train, and we certainly need to build one up, as there is much to pay for in the future, and little fat left in the company after the infrastructure we paid for in the last 12 months. Even if we don't run at all, we still have to pay off the annual instalment on the purchase of Churchward house at Winchcombe.

I stopped at Broadway on my way back, and saw lots of people outside the station (the gates were closed and the platform side was only available to passengers already on the train). Then Foremarke Hall rumbled over the bridge and a car screeched to a stop to take a picture! It was almost like the old days.

I wonder what the company will do if the first week or so is indeed successful?

We are running some diesel days if that's your sort of thing: https://www.gwsr.com/Diesel_Enthusiast_Days_13_20_27_Sep--post--92.html

Unfortunately I'm unavoidably detained on all 3 of those dates.... But 3 round trips behind your favourite diesel sounds like a pretty good offering. As far as I can work out, the pricing is the same as on steam days, except you get all 3 round trips rather than just the one, although I may be wrong on that, the website doesn't allow you to book on those dates yet.

In other news I see that this Saturday is completely booked up, I think that makes the first 4 days of operation more or less all complete sell outs which is great news, a big relief. Bodes well for 2 train operation commencing on the bank holiday weekend. I think we managed to throw some paint at some parts of virtually all of the carriages in the second rake since we returned from lockdown, as the brown panels on some of the old "third rake" carriages was looking particularly faded having been parked up at Winchcombe in the full glare of the sun for a long time. It's not perfect but a very definite improvement - even if it did start raining half way through me glossing a big lower panel outside one day. :(

For those who like diesels: This was class 37 D6948 ready to pull the second rake out of the C&W sidings yesterday:
