Steve asked me a related question last week, and I told him that the TSR was no longer in place - for info, it had gone by early March following work through the winter by Network Rail.

Far be it from me to put my opinion on here these days, but re. the situation at Horton - at the present time, I'd suggest that self-imposed abstinence from stations by photographers would be sensible, especially now there is evidence of what can happen. Latecomers are a nightmare at the best of times, much more so now for much more important reasons. Not judging anything that happened this Wednesday - it's a very unusual time and a webcam in any supermarket in the land would highlight similar breaches of the guidance, all the time.

That said, for some of us - social distancing and gricing - business as usual :D

Agree completely David and I would just add that a little common sense goes a long way!

Agree, I always avoid stations if I can, at the best of times the ‘wally’ factor is far too high

Yesterday morning I made a post in this thread, a few hours later I received an alert to say that the post had been moved (by an unidentified member of staff) to a different thread, General Railway Chat/DB Cargo Steam TI “Gentleman” Jim Smith. I was somewhat bemused. I offer this as an explanation why I chose to post it on this thread.

After seeing @Mike Wylie’s post (#30) explaining the significance of the wreath on the smoke box door I opened my post with a single paragraph about Jim. I was at the time unaware of the thread dedicated specifically to Jim’s memory.

In the next paragraph I thanked everyone for their posting their photos and vids and explained why I was not watching this train (Coronavirus) [If not on board I usually watch all Fellsmans and make a short post]. In the next 3 paragraphs I explained the implications of shielding as a prelude to stating that I would not be travelling for the foreseeable future [and so not to expect to see me on board or read any reports of my trips]. I agreed with several earlier posts about the need for social distancing and again mentioned that Saphos (the company who operate The Fellsman) have chosen not to advise passengers to wear masks. As this was the first post lockdown steam trip I felt it reasonable for me to raise these issues, as had earlier posts in the thread and was thus entirely appropriate to this thread.

Earlier in the thread there had been a minor digression and several posts suggested possible female names for Britannias. In the next couple of paragraphs I joined in, merely responding to these earlier posts. I concluded my post with some of my usual nonsense in the hope of providing some members with a bit of light hearted entertainment.

Earlier this morning I saw a post on the thread, DB Cargo Steam TI “Gentleman” Jim Smith from @RMellish questioning why my post was on the thread as only the first paragraph referred to Jim. I totally agree. Later in the morning I discovered that my post had been edited by a Moderator; now only the first paragraph remained whilst the rest had been moved to a newly created thread, General Railway Chat/Britannia and Related Things.

All this was done without reference to me; not even the courtesy of a PM. I understand the need for Moderators, and would not wish to be one, but perhaps a lighter touch is required. We all have our opinions on what is appropriate and what is not but, with only 2 more Fellsmans scheduled for 2020, was my post doing so much harm that it had to be split and moved?

Yes I agree with you, all very strange. I wanted to reply to your post but could not possibly have guessed what had happened to it. Anyway it gave me a good laugh when it appeared in my inbox.
Keep safe and carry on posting

Thanks for the encouragement Don. I will keep posting but it is more difficult to stay motivated when something like this happens.

That was me and you should have been automatically copied into the note about the split. What it did was ensure that your appropriate comments about Jim went to where they were best placed. Hard to understand why you have a problem with that.

The rest, including the Britannia digression went to where people could add and comment in the same vein if they wished without detracting from the 'live' thread about the Fellsman that you may have noticed is now up and running.

I agree that it's a hard call when people post tangentially in a thread as you did. The housekeeping was certainly not with the intention of discouraging you from doing what you do...but 'What's Going On' is, as the name implies, all about current action on charters.

And no, we don't generally 'consult' on housekeeping matters.

Britannia still sat at Upperby loop. Diesel and coaches have gone back to Carlisle station.

Pan shot of 70000 northbound with today's Fellsman - 19.08.20. Can confirm that the return leg is hauled by the Cl 47.

Not sure why, as the tour is showing at Kirkby Stephen? I assume the 20 going to rescue the Brit and take her light to Crewe?
