Just had a fantastic time volunteering at my first ‘Polar Express’ season at Telford. I loved every single minute and it was great to make some new friends with the Churnet Valley folk as well.

A merry Christmas and happy new year to all Nat Pres members

    all the best

    Hello all

Just wanted to give you an update on some of what’s been going on at Telford since the end of the Polar Express in December.

One of the 12 ton vans has been refurbished and repainted. It looks fantastic. I think it is just waiting to have G W put on the sides now FAA67DC6-D233-4380-A73C-64CC9DAE91FB.jpeg A couple of track panels have been lifted and the ground dug out and refilled. Old sleepers have been replaced with concrete ones, Spent today helping to level and pack the track ready for final ballasting . 280DE248-5E5E-4AB1-AEFB-3D4AFC4B503E.jpeg In the shed, Ruston & Hornsby 0-4-0 DH No 525347 Rusty is being rubbed down ready for a repaint. I’ve heard that it might be given a new livery.

Rolling stock and locos are gradually being cleaned ready for the the 2020 season which starts over the Easter weekend.

Hello all, I hope everyone is safe and well.

Not sure what @Victor will say;) but Telford Steam Railway has this week taken delivery of a Pacer unit. Here it is, sitting in the sun at Spring Village today.
6833FCC2-2023-4A05-B574-56C7BF4D562E.jpeg The far end faces our other operational DMU. Between the two you might notice the track work going on. One small silver lining of not being open is that it has given us time to replace all the sleepers alongside the platform at Spring Hill. Today we were finishing off ‘jack and pack’ ballasting ready to tamp down next week. There is always plenty to do, even if we are not running trains. 85F3BCED-B54D-4114-A97B-A40F45B3197F.jpeg best wishes

Well theres got to be some heritage lines for preservationists who have a softspot for saving some of the 142,s and 144,s to run them depending on which heritage railway buys them such as up at the K.V.W.R. and wensleydale lines that have got a few.

I know some were taken all the way down to Sims in Newport for scrapping, but I'm not sure where they came from.

    Hello all

    A quick update from Horsehay.

Ruston & Hornsby No. 525947 ‘Rusty’ has come out of the shed after its recent repaint. 6B7F3B4A-A25F-4623-AE3B-F28BA74B3FF9.jpeg Taking Rusty’s place in the shed is 08757 ‘Eagle’. The shunt to allow this brought both of the Pecketts, No 1722 ‘Rocket’ and No 1967 ‘Merlin/Myrddin, out into the daylight for a few minutes . 4419D47D-0371-4389-B6D0-3439E2FD8F23.jpeg

    Hello everyone

Time for an update from Spring Village

37263 is now operational and I think looks really smart in its new livery 3E326DF2-2F93-4060-96BB-E1837D1F98D2.jpeg The first panel of sleepers have been replaced on the Shed Road. They were packed today, just waiting for some more ballast to finish before moving on to the rest of the siding. 88A8A231-EAA8-4C4A-9C3B-BD6721613272.jpeg The steam tram’s boiler is out being prepared for its 10 yearly exam F7BDF3D6-07DD-4BF4-9A9D-5B4ED78E4E54.jpeg Peckett No 1722 ‘Rocket’ is also being prepared for its annual boiler exam. F7712DC1-154E-4591-97CF-7F6674945E01.jpeg Finally, we had a move round of stock in the sidings today which ended with our other Peckett, No 1990 ‘Ironbridge Power Station No. 3 being put in a place that is much easier to photograph. 35E2885E-6308-417C-988D-7EFD2B37AAED.jpeg Best wishes

    Hello everyone

Lots of things have been going on since the last update.

Overhanging Branches and bushes have been cut back between Horsehay and Dawley station and the barrow crossing at Doesley. Works trains have ventured down the line.

Class 104 DMU no’s 50479 and 50531 have left the railway.

On the shed road, six panels of track have been lifted and the life expired sleepers replaced. The track is now back in use.

Peckett 1722 ‘Rocket’ passed its boiler exam and steam test, and is operational again. Sadly the tram boiler did not pass its 10 yearly, and has been condemned.

A working party has taken on the job of rebuilding the signal box at Horsehay and Dawley Station. Early days so far but it is good to see progress being made.

08757. ‘Eagle’ was in use today. Quite a bit of shunting took place at Lawley to bring the Dogfish down to Spring Village.

Finally, a reminder of our gofundme page to raise funds to restore/covert our BSO to become a fully disabled compliant coach. Link is below

    Hi all

I was volunteering at the railway this weekend and saw that another Pacer has arrived, 142058 seen here in the yard at Spring Village. Elsewhere, sleeper renewal continues, with woods being replaced by concretes along the platform at Horsehay and Dawley Station.
