Autumn Steam Gala – Thurs 1st to Sun 4th October 2020
Our Autumn Steam Gala takes place from 1st to 4th October 2020, with a busy passenger service on Thursday, stepping up a gear on Friday with the addition of freight trains, and on Saturday and Sunday a very intensive timetable indeed, including a very frequent passenger service with goods trains and Travelling Post Office demonstrations. An event not to missed!

Up to 9 locomotives in steam!

Further details will be published here closer to the event.

If this ends up being the only steam gala of the year, it has potential to be rather busy! Still, I'm up for it if the railway is! :)

Apparently the ELR are planning one for the following weekend 9 - 11 October.

Quite. I wonder how social distancing is going to be maintained?

The GCR FB page has a comment on it stating that a decision on whether the October Gala will go ahead will be made in mid-August......

Is there any update on this? Not easy organising galas at the moment I know, but I'd be prepared to support them if they can.

Have seen nothing about it since it got a mention on their FB site, though it still remains on the "Special Events" section of their website.
They have updated that page today, as they have added the Mountsorrel branch trains on Monday 31st August.

The GCR weekly e-newsletter that I just found in my inbox says that they are looking at running an "Enthusiasts Weekend", possibly in November, so this presumably will replace the Gala.
Interestingly they are intending to restart Dining Trains and reactivate the Griddle car from the middle of September, having kitted vehicles out with plastic screens!

7th/8th November is the date planned for something called "The First Hurrah" (as opposed to the last , which normally takes place in November) according to the latest e-newsletter.
Says further details later, but should include 4 steam locos, 1 diesel and a Railcar service to Mountsorrel.......
