Surprise surprise the Edinburgh TPE was late... A hasty start again aided by the downhill stretch. 60 was soon hit again. 58 taken onto Shap, speed falling rapidly. 31 at Scout Green where it seems the diesel notched into action (friends clip makes notch 2 a good guess?). Speed held steady with a min of 27 topping at 29. The noise from upfront held well 8 coaches back! Sedate run down to Carlisle - the new 65mph limit on black 5’s seemingly hasn’t reached LSL yet with a max of 61.5 recorded all day.

Could not get a image to load from my PC, but it does work from my iPad, so here is 45231 approaching Acton Bridge this morning.

Maybe the owners don't want to run at 65mph.

Glad 45231 is out and about! Good reminder that LSL has the 5 so 46100 doesn’t do all the work.

National Rail site says station does not open until 0615 on a Saturday. So I guess it could be argued it was lucky the guy arrived by 0600.

Nice to see the '5' on Shap but not a day for steam purists obviously.

Top image shows 45231 heading north towards Carlisle with the Lakelander on 29.08.20. The bottom photograph was taken at Currock Junction on the return leg. Same location that I took 46100 a fortnight ago - then, there was just two of us photographers there. Just shows the pull of Nat Pres, today there was about 20...

A good show upfront over Shap, I was expecting a bit more from the rear given how heavy the whole consist was. A strong Northerly wind meant the Five wasn't heard until late on but when she arrived the class five sounded very good and I'm sure those in the mark 1's had plenty of chatter floating back. Enjoy =)
