My name is Keith, as you are well aware. When you resort to name calling, you’ve lost the argument.
Minehead is only open this weekend, not every weekend as Buckfastleigh. WSR might be 'looking' to run in December, but their performance over the last 6 months in organising events and running would tend to suggest that this will not happen. They also need to get the trackwork finished, get someone to sign it off, sort out the FTR exams, sort out competence training, sort out all the maintenance of track, signalling, stations, locos etc and possibly sort out some arrangements for the level crossing.

Hardly. The plc is trying to have the bun and the ha'penny. Booting the S&DRT out of Washford, but still expecting free use of their superb loco - and oh, if S&DRT are lucky the plc may feel generous and part fund its overhaul. Great!!

Freedom of speech, even if you don't agree with this guy. I don't either, but there are two sides to every coin.

Perhaps Mr Evans might like to take ‘Fortitude South’ as his ‘handle’?

And assuming they have got all their local authority linear feature discharge consents approved...

Oh, "Linear feature what?" - Did I hear someone say...

So as a moderator, you're happy to post such comments, undermining the work of loyal volunteers who just want to help?
I have visited many heritage railways, the wsr ontrain toilets are far superior to many others.
Last time I visited the SVR, most of their loos were locked out of use. South Devon ontrain loos anyone?
    Please be evenhanded.

That is a good point, what PPE should people be wearing when dealing with contaminated surfaces, such as the four foot? should hand weeding even be allowed when you think on the potential hazards that they might be exposing themselves to

Before everyone gets overexcited about finding something else to bash the WSR over the head with, let us remind ourselves off the fact that a) this is not a WSR specific problem, all heritage railways have direct discharge onto the track where track workers have the potential to come into contact with it, and b) the WSR hasn't run any passenger trains at all since December (?).
Given that the track was allowed to get into the state that its in, I'm prepared to accept that hand-weeding is the most effective method, even if it all looks a bit bleak. It is a shame that the WSR didn't feel able to run a weedkilling train earlier in the year though when other railways managed to find a way to do so and thus avoided the problem altogether.
A little calm is needed, not *everything* the WSR does needs criticising and analysing to death. It's that sort of thing which (here I go again) allows certain people to dismiss *all* criticism on this thread as nonsense, when much of it isn't so.

Er no. A number don't but that is really a question for another thread.

Ian , the image is the very one the railways volunteers present posting images of their efforts . given the successful operation of so many other lines large and small that this is the image the WSR presents is stark contrast. whatever you say that cannot be glossed over

now mods hat off and personal hat on . Of all the preserved lines the WSR is one I care about least by a very very large margin , been twice , treated badly twice , won't ever visit again and the sorry saga of the last few years serves to reinforce that . I wouldn't shed a tear if the worse were to happen

Bloody hell Martin, that's a bit strong. A large proportion of us are appalled at the decisions that the management have made recently but in no way would we say or think that. <BJ>

I appreciate others feel differently but I feel nothing for the WSR , nothing whatsoever . I'm tired of the saga that shows no sign of ending and after 1500+ pages nothing has changed and it plods inexorably to its ultimate demise

Good for growing vegetables, one of uncle worked on a sewerage works, a couples of buckets of human excrement worked wonders with his runner beans, tomatoes and marrows. :D
