Does anyone know if the SSE is running this Thursday (24th).
RTT shows some odd movements around York on that day.

    Thanks!

I very doubtful Davo. I think WCR like to use their own fleet of Steam locos rather than hiring in other locos?

I guess not but 61264 has been to Scarborough. See Six Bells Jn 13/3/04 for details of an interesting tour, no doubt memorable for those who went on it.

Yes, that was an interesting day as a steward. Luckily I managed to bail out at Stevenage at 3am, but a couple of others and a few passengers ended up sleeping on the stock at King's Cross until the tubes reopened in the morning!

And there is a premium added to the fares for any Scotsman hauled tours.

Why? I travelled behind it numerous times from the late 70s to the 90s, and never paid any premium on the fare! It is supposed to be the peoples engine whose overhaul was paid for by the taxpayer (presumably), so why do we have to pay extra to travel behind it. I cannot see what the big deal is with engine, after all it is a mongrel that bears little resemblance now to it's as built condition.

A lot of locos no longer resemble their as built condition, mostly because they 'sucked' as built.

Because the market will bear a £25 per head premium. Because it's FS.

That was then, this is now, she has got to earn her keep and justify the money already spent returning her 1st class condition. As for mongrel, no steam loco running today is running in as built condition as although you may not like it, they have had to adopt and adapt to comply with today's working conditions.

Flying Scotsman hasn't been 'as built' since at least January 1947 when it was converted to A3 from its earlier A1/A10 standard.
