Ah, apologies then. It's always a little difficult to follow threads when so many posts are arriving so quickly while you are still typing the response to one that arrived 6 or 7 posts ago now!:Eggonface::)

Understood! But given where I believe you volunteer, I suggest that treating people as pariahs because their railway is doomed denies the possibility of future change.

    Not quite right.
All that is needed is a period of re education away from Chocolate, Cream, Green and Copper.
With a final declaration that there is life away from the previous evils. :):)

But, unlike the current WSR plc, on the line Pat works at, people who previously were thrown off, by the then loco superintendent, were welcomed back by the new management, and things have now settled down back to one railway, we had our fair share of upheavals, people come, people go, no one person can be bigger than the railway, a fact that the WSR has yet to grasp

And who is to say that similar reconciliation is impossible in west Somerset?

I don’t think “the WSR” have failed to grasp those lessons, but that individuals at the WSR have failed to grasp them. There is a very important difference.

Some WSR members already volunteer and have other roles on other preserved lines, and apparently do so without any animosity, agression or disagreement.

Does this speak more of the individuals or of the culture at the WSR?

Do you not see that if you, by examples like this, show that this sort of speculation about motives, etc, is acceptable, then all that is doing is telling others that it's OK to deploy the same techniques against you? Do you ever ask yourself 'how would I feel if other people said this sort of thing about me'?

A purer example of the kind of thing that's apparently too common in the WSR 'culture' (for all the reports of how nice everyone there is) would be hard to arrange. The thought running through my head at this point is an unfortunately a too apropos malquotation of someone from the Viet Nam War: "We had to destroy the railway in order to save it."

todays developments in the "friends" group . Reasonable questions and I felt an even supportive answer or at least sympathetic one

I've been banned and removed from the group . Do people get why I have very little sympathy for the WSR

Pathetic, isn't it ? A childish inability to respond to reasonable questions.

Very much a bunker mentality. The last thing any organisation needs to be successful.
