CTL Seal are iirc large scale structural engineers with quite a lot of work with a marine connection ( sea anchors the size of minibuses), rigs, gantries, silos structural members etc As i mentioned earlier, Hengists somewhat complex frames sometimes look like a dismantled pocket watch in a blacksmiths shop. Yes the frames take up space but relatively- not much and the current burst of activity is as much to do with some machine/operator time being available. Biker Mike has got the handle on it

As the bloke doing all the drawing work on GCR567, I thought that I needed to raise the project profile a bit... We have a strict policy of telling our Supporters first about any developments...
There are 2 items that may be of interest I can release - firstly our Bogie Wheel castings are shortly to be cast by Trefoil Foundry, Tyres are on order from Germany, and the wheelsets will be assembled in Coalville - so something solid by year end?
Secondly, it has been decided that the barely surviving ROD Tender is to have a coat of 'looking at'. I have designed a 'hybrid' tender tank (please NO Batteries included jokes) to resemble an MS&LR 3000 Gallon version - obviously there have to be differences as the frames are different (but similar). The design is currently under review for manufacture.
So, GCR567 is not dead, Covid 19 has not killed it - just restricted work at Ruddington - time to wake things up (even if not at Ruddington)

    Glad to hear it's moving.

No probs about telling your supporters first - it's their money, but thanks to you or whoever who re-awoke the website, it does make a difference. How long after supporters do you tend to release info to us gawpers on the side? Your plywood teaser pic has been teasing me for ages now...

Well there is also the dedicated 567 thread on this forum and there are several on here that support the project. Whilst I like the idea that supporters get the news first, I think it is really important that the news does flow out regularly - and more often than quarterly. As a minimum, I would think monthly updates should be aimed at as the project ramps up. Certainly the more successful new builds all have regular communications. I know the sad death of Dennis Wilcox hit the project hard but I thought that a new PR person was in place?

A little bit of news out of issue 46 the warrior mag L.M.S. patriot project engineering news on the driving wheelsets thats set them back required by Ricardo rail the L.M.S. patriot engineers may have to press the driving wheels off the axles to check if they are central on the axles whilst rotating this is its something to do with when the new keyways was put back so far they think only this 1 set of driving wheels may want pressing off to be checked but all 3 may have to be checked out.

Just read this report. You have failed to insert the words "may have" into the text, with regard to the driving wheels being pressed off the axle.

@Davo did say "may have" for all 3, is the "may have" even for 1 set then? Either way, fingers crossed it can be resolved without that, That feels like it would set the project back noticeably in terms of timescale.

What does it mean then if the wheels are out of alignment on the axle ends say like if the wheels are spun and they maybe bouncing up and down or moving from left to right rather than dead straight when rotated does this mean the hole in the wheel itself could be off centre very slightly and if the loco was run in that state theres a high chance a derailment could occur? So thats why ricardo rail want the wheel sets perfectly true/in line for mainline running thats IF the wheelsets may be ok anyhow in the 1st place.

Something strange gone on there. The tyres are turned with the axle between centres, so should be true to the axle. Are the wheels themselves running out, I wonder?

That should be catered for when turning the tyres and the loco hasn’t seen any service to cause damage. Or are you suggesting that the wheel centres themselves may be out of kilter although the tyres run true?

I was trying to think of all the ways in which a misalignment could be described as "not central on an axle" and could think of at least four (not all of which might be likely; just which are geometrically feasible and broadly consistent with that description). I guess we'll have to wait for fuller details to emerge.

(As an aside, I'm aware of another new build in which the driving wheels were mounted a couple of degrees out of alignment on the axle relative to a keyway, the consequence of which - had it gone unnoticed - would have been to throw out the valve timing. Fortunately remediation could be made in the design of other components to rectify the issue rather than disassemble and reassemble the wheel set).

I guess the magnitude of the delay will depend on whether it can be turned out in the tyre or not.

Not good though is it? Assuming the tyres are turned up on the wheelset (ie two wheels on an axle), then there has to be an error of measurement, and possibly in the machines. Or the wheel is loose on the axle (also not encouraging). Aren't the wheels old stock? So presumably it can't be castings doing anything strange

I make regular donations to this project and I'm getting anxious about the amount of time and money that is being used in trying to rectify past mistakes. There seem to be significant problems in producing the required documentation to show that components have been manufactured to the quality standards necessary for mainline running.

Is it possible the castings moved as they destressed?

I can't see how that would make much difference as they are machined after stress relieving
