I used to cycle the mile down to Morley Low and watch them double heading with Jub's there. Great site as the burst in or out of the tunnel, often with a Black 5 or rebuilt Pat as well.

Does not seem to be much evidence in Linesiders video. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0FlBI4tSn ... =1&index=6

I take it you hadn't seen it before, PSOV has similar coverage and it's fair to say that Davids is as good if not better, and consider also that their equipment probably cost a lot more than his.

As I understand it, the LMS shaped the smoke deflectors to match that of the firebox. Those of the parallel Scots had vertical deflectors, sloped (eventually) inwards at the top; the Big Lizzies had theirs sloped inwards for their full height; and the rebuilt Scots had that S shape as seen from the front, as did the firebox. Aesethetics were thus a major consideration. The deflectors on the first two mentioned were quite long, long enough to do the job, but those on the taper Scots were much shorter and possibly didn't channel enough air down the length of the boiler barrel, hence the problem of smoke beating down, which I have heard of.

While there might be little photographic or video evidence of this, it should be remembered that most photographers pick a spot where the engine would be working hard, as in the video shown, so that blast pipe pressure would lift the exhaust clear so isn't really a true guide to smoke problem.

A great day out to Hellifield on Wednesday, with some cracking weather when i waited 3 hours for 46115 but just before it arrived the sun decided it didn't want to shine. The new microphone worked a treat as the wind picked up a little after the sun had gone in.

Footage is now online after some technical issues yesterday ](*,)

Don't hold your breath but looks like next week now. I would think that's cutting it a bit fine for the 7th but perhaps they are confident that the problem is sorted...

UKSteam info is now showing a Private Charter (Hellifield-Carlisle-Hellifield) next week Thursday 5th Feb -- although no actual times posted as yet.
So, will there be a test run before this, or is the test?
Anyone got more info on this?

Looks like a test run, no TOC, no timings, no details at all.
