    Break in overnight Wenesday and £10K worth of power tools taken......

    Sadly the Heritage Centre site suffered a burglary last night and all the power tools that we have for looking after the nature trails, the railway and the lineside were taken. The cost of replacing the tools and the repairs needed will be over £10,000. Everyone is devastated. There's never a good time for these things to happen but the financial strain through lockdown makes this all the more difficult to bounce back from... Our CCTV shows the perpetrators coming into site at 10:35pm. They had a white transit van that they parked on the road side near the bridge. They were only there for a few minutes and then came back at 11:55pm for half an hour. If any of you came past at those times and might have dash cam footage that might provide further details, please do let us know.

    Having had our lock restoration site turned over a couple of times by the white Transit driving community, I can fully understand how you feel. These vermin infest the countryside and add nothing to society.

    After the raids on our site, we installed a couple of trail cameras in discrete locations around the site to supplement the CCTV cameras, and one captured the scrote's faces when they made another visit. They didn't take anything on that occasion but the police were able to use the mugshots to link them to other crimes where they had stolen folk's property.

    Hi all, I volunteer at Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre.

    The thieves specifically took multiple Stihl strimmers and two lawnmowers, one being a brand-new field mower :( .
    Luckily a gofundme page has been put up in order to make some of the money back
    (link to donate --> https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfun...EKbFACdtDiyJbLhB_GKJX_pH_uEVmAvxzfffH_v-PRKok)

    We have now installed anti-bandit fog generators in the 'sheds if they try and break in there for stuff again.
    The locks on the stores have been replaced and I donated my petrol strimmer.
    As for the thieves in the Ford Transit van, I haven't heard any news about them so far...

    one observation and apologies for this and it isn't directed at the heritage centre specifically but the broader heritage movement . I do wonder if what is shared on social media plays a part in this . you can case a location virtually from images online and have an idea of what may have value and where it can be found to take

    I believe there is a lot in what you say Martin. It reminds me of early CB days when people spoke of their movements and possessions plus many taxi companies used CB. It was a boon for would be burglars.
    The maybe a Facebook input as well as far to much personal information appears to be given on Facebook.
