As I understand it small bits of piston rings jam in the valve which then sticks open until it receives attention or clears itself. The BR standards suffer from the same problem

Draincocks sticking: Not a locomotive engineer, but would be a bit worried if piston rings were breaking up?
Last time I asked my mate who works on loco's at Bury, his take on it was bits of the inevitable build up of scale and carbonisation on the piston heads coming loose. As said usual it fires out itself but the aid of a good clout from something hard often does the trick! :D

Saturday was a special day in East Lancs with the visit of 2 notable pacifics, and so very different. 6201, Princess Elizabeth, built in 1933 by the LMS with its vast resources, part of an initial batch of 2 locomotives, the very first pacifics for use on the west coast route to Scotland and looking resplendent in her crimson lake livery. 60163, Tornado, built 75 years later by a small dedicated group with minimal resources, the final (or perhaps only latest?) development of a long and famous lineage of pacifics used on the east coast route and looking equally stunning in BR express green livery. How fortunate we are; your photos and videos do them proud – thank you for posting.

Tour cancelled on the 17th October I'm guessing as it isn't showing on the website, along with the rest of October's tours, 3rd October to Carlisle excepted

More likely it’s fully booked hence no longer showing on the website.

As noted previously, when emails were circulating a couple of weeks back they suggested there were only a couple of seats left on either date so I imagine its vanished due to being full not MT.

In the consist there are two coaches (they were at the engine end on the outbound trip) with very few windows which resemble mk3 sleepers, I assume in this case they are kitchen/catering vehicles?

Pretty sure they're sleeping coaches for the staff when the train doesn't return back to Carnforth and is travelling between points during the night

Seems odd to leave them in the consist for a day tour, albeit could be more hassle shunting to take out temporarily?

As the stock has been out this Friday, possibly being used for that purpose this weekend?

Leaving the accommodation coach in the consist means that the staff do not have to make silly o'clock starts and finishes together with a long day on duty.

Confirmed timings on the website for Saturday show 10:10 off Preston, 12.40 Carlisle in, 14.05 Carlisle out and 18.00 into Preston. So this makes it seem like it's WCML first, happy to be corrected though.
