I believe they are relaying around 3 miles in all, and I understand that all the removed material has been donated to the NYMR to do with as they see fit. Most will end up scrapped I would imagine, as it seems to be the practice to cut it into 30ft lengths. Some of it may perhaps find its way into the new carriage shed at Pickering if its any good. Even if its all scrap there's a fair bit of value in it, though.

As all the rail is being cut into approx 20ft pieces it is only fit for scrap.
Fishplates(especially lift plates), sleepers and any other available components are to be rcovered.

    Aaaarh! The NTC train.
Last time I saw that was at Maiden Newton. Fine once it gets going, but a bit of beast to set up / strike down, especially on a curve.

Continuing on the theme of the NR Esk Valley railway I understand the tamper for the job has arrived via the NYMR, having been transported to its New Bridge p-way depot by road. Hopefully the NYMR ‘you rub my back, I’ll rub yours’ will get some free tamping this autumn.

Despite being the third week in September the trains are still running full, with most services being sold out. I suppose that is one slight benefit of this years enforced staycation.

I'm over for the weekend and booked on the 9.20 from Pickering both days. Anyone any idea which engine(s) will be in steam?

Although not guaranteed, the 9.20 tends to continue to be the 9f between Pickering and Grosmont then the cl.25 between Grosmont and Whitby. And today the 9f worked both the 9.20 and 12 noon ex Pickering.

Lovely, thank you - I want to bag the 9F and the Class 25 is an old friend and fellow product of Gorton.

The same loco is diagrammed to work both the 09.20 and 12.00 ex Pickering. At Grosmont the Cl.25 takes over the 09.25 and either 825 or 926 takes over the 12.00.

The diagrams changed on Monday with a loco now stabling overnight at Pickering. This loco works both trains out of Pickering, returning light engine for the second. The Whitby loco takes over the first train at Grosmont, goes to Whitby and back to Pickering, returning light to Grosmont. The second train now has the diesel between Grosmont and Whitby with the Pickering loco taking over at Grosmont again on the return.

That was last week. New diagrams came into effect on Monday with the reopening of New Bridge depot. This has been done to cut out the early and late light engine moves so reducing signalmens hours.

I traveled with my father Today on the 9.20 ex Pickering which was hauled by the 9f to Grosmont where S15 825 then took over to Whitby. We then returned 2pm ex Whitby behind the S15 all the way back to Pickering. Good day out despite the weather...

Very enjoyable weekend around the Moors. A lovely ride behind the 9F and Class 25 to a very wet and windy Whitby on Friday and then a very nice days walking and filming yesterday.

Some brutal weather over the last five days which put a stop to most of our plans but thankfully there was some tasty performances on the Sunday, which made it worth while in the end.

Looking forward to travelling on ‘The Optimist’ this Monday. Would anyone be able to advise/hazard a guess which loco (s) might be used/booked please? (I’m travelling on the 09:20 from Pickering and back on the 2pm Whitby service)

    Many thanks

    Ben
