Perhaps they should paint it a slightly different Green and call it 'Heineken'

But the achieved availability was 5000miles, according to your source. Still no mean feat

I think you have slightly mis-interpreted the figure. The LNER encyclopaedia is saying that the design could run 5,000 miles out of a total route mileage of 6,414 - not 6,414 out of a total of 6,590. (Seems you and the encyclopaedia slightly disagree on the LNER's total route mileage).

That's about 78% route availability. FWIW, a Bulleid light pacific as built had about 90% route availability over the SR.

Fair, thank you for the clarification Tom (and my apologies everyone: not my intention to mislead!)

The comparison for the Bulleid compared to the V4 - is that like for like though? The LNER and SR are not going to have the same distribution of lightly laid lines compared to mainlines. Or was the SR better at maintaining its track...!

Dodgy territory perhaps. I am not sure how useful the figures are. Nevertheless, it's still an impressive achievement given the difficulties of route availability, axle loading and infrastructure restrictions.

The Southern was good at maintenance and after Sevenoaks did become seriously much better at maintaining its track.
Literally from a better base: it extended it down - drainage, subgrade, good depth of broken stone.

So 3403 is going to have a name, with an Army connection... if its a Vehicle we have :

Wildcat ( an army helicopter, and with Scottish leanings, also
Chieftain ( Retired now , but then so are Tornados ) or maybe 'The Chieftain ( if you cant beat the press join 'em)
    Terrier ( mmm !)
also Ajax, Apache (no) Warrior ( Known ? !) Boxer, Challenger, Stormer, Bulldog (Nah, dont like it).Husky, Mastiff, Foxhound (a hunt perhaps) Panther, Titan (hardly) Gazelle( a B1 surely) Watchkeeper, Juno, Ridgback, scimitar, spartan, jackal coyote
    scorpion ( retired) nthen theres
Rapier( Missile system) Osprey (Body armour -Also a Bird, Also Scots Native)

These seem more appropriate than people or places...

Is this fact? It makes sense given the RAF and Navy connections so far.

The Chieftan has a great ring to it given the V4’s old stamping grounds

Indeed, quite like 'The Chieftain' but we will probably end up with ' Sandhurst' or 'Carleton-Smith' or some other establishmentarian nod.
    'Gurkha' PERHAPS...

The quote attributed to Mr Davies is ‘We have one engine associated with the Royal Air Force (Tornado) another engine associated with the Royal Navy (Prince of Wales linked with the aircraft carrier of that name) and we’re going to have a third engine with an army connection’

    How about "The Ferret"?
Or "The Crusader" if you want to name it after the the second-best Scammell the Army had (can't really name it The Explorer).
