The Green Howard, Alexandra, Princess of Wales own Regiment

 

Perhaps the generic "Devils In Skirts" in reference to the Scottish regiments of WW1?

Brilliant.

 

Not very well known but a local connection, Lt Col Roland Bradford VC, Durham Light Infantry . The youngest field officer to be awarded the VC, in 1916. He was promoted to temporary Lt Col at the age of 24, a reflection of the attrition rate of officers on the Somme. Also unique as the only record of two siblings receiving the highest gallantry award, his brother received his in 1917 while serving in the Navy. Both of them, along with a third brother did not survive the war.

 

So im thinking Army connection and a Stockton/ Darlington connection
So - the nearby massive army camp 'Catterick' with at least 2 'Engineer' regiments there
or the even more local ' Darlington Army Surplus' who im sure would sponsor the trust to tune of a few donkey Jackets...

I think Green Howard would be good and in no way confusing for people who want to see a green LNER 2-6-2 with a monobloc cylinder...

If you're going down that road why not take the simple option and name it 'Bob'........ short for 'Kate'

 

of course, if they actually called it Kate then they've named it after the whole army...

Incidentally, as a former member of the Andrew, I never understood why the Army was the Kate.

How about Walter tull? he is a worthy name and in todays climate would tick many boxes footballer, first coloured officer in the army,

 

But the vast majority of the general public would assume it was named after a rather more well known lady.....
