Last year's relaying was a mixture of lengths of circa 20m, I read

    Track Panels 20190608.jpg
These were some of the panels at Foley Park shortly after delivery in June last year. It looks as though they were about 14 sleepers in length which I think would equate to around 30ft or 10m lengths - I'm sure one of our resident P-way experts could give a more accurate figure. Whatever length they were, they were very welcome!

They certainly look like G44 with Fastclips cut into 30ft's which could be welded up into 60ft's.
A lot better than old BH Rail on wood.

It must depend on how the rails were cut on site. Down my way the relayers were using the 'big sugar nippers' to chop the rails, leaving very jagged ends. You'd probably lose about a foot at each end to make good.

I have visions of a heritage line somewhere (not the SVR I'm sure, I hasten to add!) where after a few rounds of "cut the end off", the track goes "fishplate - sleeper - fishplate - sleeper - fishplate ..."

I must say that where track has been relaid in recent years on the SVR, the ride is excellent and smooth. It is noticeable where the older sections are now, that's for sure! CWR may not be very heritage, but for ride and ease of maintenance it has got to make sense.

Of concern must be the section between Country Park Halt and Hampton Loade, which is under speed restrictions for near enough the entire length, with one section very severe now, down to 5mph. I understand that another section of embankment is giving cause for concern and a glance back from the train on Sunday showed a noticeable dip. I hope the solution is simpler and less expensive than other recent repairs.

    If those panels are 30fts?
Then by the standards that I recall, you would need to cut off 150mm on each burnt end due to risk of oxidation of the rail ends.
Even so the length remaining should be suitable for welding up into a sub 60ft panel as long as there are no intermediate welds closer than 4.5m.

From the very wet weather in February was movement in two locations. Repeat offender Sterns has had £120k of drainage work (funded by the Charitable Trust) and continues to be monitored.

A design package has been made for the second location, Alveley woods, incorporating soil nailing and (again) drainage. There have negotiations with a neighbouring landowner. That work has not taken place.

Updates on both have appeared in the Branch Lines newsletters several times since April and more will appear as things develop. As you say, speed restrictions are in force.

    I hope this helps

Made a few visits to the line this month. Here are the results, featuring 1450, 7714, 813, 34027, D821, D1015 and 40106, all surrounded by lovely autumnal scenery. Enjoy! :)

I watched a video of the test runs earlier on YouTube. Anyone know what has happened to 46100 as she now appears to have a large rusty patch on the boiler cladding as shown in this still from the video: [IMG]
