I think the s in brackets can now be removed from the title of this thread. It has been announced today by the B17 Steam Locomotive Trust (Spirit of Sandringham) that -

"Ken Livermore, Project Lead of the 61662 Appeal (Manchester United) was in touch with us last
month on a matter which will surely be helpful to both organisations. To be clear, the 61662 project
is a B17 locomotive “mock up” with tender No. 4166, once coupled to Class B1 No. 61176 – one of
the Vulcan batch. It is located ‘outside’ at The Mizens Railway, home of the Woking Miniature
Railway Society in Surrey, owners of the 10 acre site who have granted space for the 61662
    project.
Ken explained that the 61662 project had been seriously impacted by the closure of The Mizens
site earlier this year due to the pandemic and deterioration of the “mock up” locomotive. His recent
illness has imposed constant shielding to preserve his health which in turn has prevented his
ongoing involvement. He has consulted in writing with each of the 58 club members in relation to
suggested options to be considered by way of re-evaluating the 61662 project whilst also taking
into account the severe lack of funding for the project. Ken advised that the favoured outcome
supported by the vote of members of the 61662 Appeal was to offer the ex B1 tender as a
donation to B17SLT for the Spirit of Sandringham project. The cost of its removal and transport
from the site was to be a B17SLT responsibility. "

That sounds a good dignified way of resolving that. I hope all concerned can move on together.

Quite agree. It could also pave the way for building the previously mentioned up thread for a streamlined mini A4 style B17!"

Who says they should start straight away. My idea being what could classed as forward planning, as per the A1SLT. They've already started acquiring pre-made parts for the V4........ But haven't finished the P2 yet.

So now the SoS has .. 3 Tenders ?
Perhaps one could be sold on to run with the V4....

Why on earth would we want an ersatz A4 when we have six of the real things. As an enthusiastic donor to the B17 project I would soon lose that enthusiasm if that idea was ever seriously mooted.

Great isn't it, how lucky we are. On the other hand we only have one Sandringham.

Bear in mind whilst the A1SLT are building a P2 as per the as built original [with updates]and poppet gear. The Doncaster Group are building a replica with the A4 nose and Gresley Conjugated valve gear.

That's fine as additional to the A1SLT P2. Great if it was to come off and we have two P2's......but we only have the one original Sandringham.

They're not really though. They cut the frames 6? years ago and haven't made a thing since!
    It'll never happen

two P2s would be nice, if the other one was Earl Marischal as built with Walschaerts gear and its original front end semi-streamlining.
However I can honestly see the Doncaster P2 project heading the same way as the Mizens Railway Foootballer Replica...

If we are looking at LNER stuff, I agree with LMS 2968, the big stuff is pretty well covered. I would think that the way to go would be the more medium powered locos, a GCR 4-6-2 tank would be good, also, not much from the GC.

... and not a solitary SG* LNE or LMS Sentinel railcar. :(

    * Is anything happening about the Egyptian Sentinel, or the 2'-6" gauge one touted for repatriation from Sri Lanka?
