Indeed the cut down myth has persisted for 50+ years. The other "preserved" 05s are from the later batch which was built with full height cabs.[/QUOTE]

Even the official IOWSR website perpetuates this myth, stating the cab height was modified for use on the island.

To be fair @Paulthehitch, photocharters do attract numbers and do pay for themselves.
The rarer charters can command more money, you may be pleasantly surprised at how much something like this could bring in.

That said, it won't happen. A photocharter trackside on 3rd rail Network Rail infrastructure is simply far beyond the realms of fantasy...
An 05 with a bit of PW stock on the IOWSR would not be likely to be much of a draw.

In fairness I did say photo op, not a full blown photo charter, I was thinking if someone just happened to be walking along Ryde pier when the engineers train happened to be on the pier, of course, nothing would stop Island line from having an official photographer on site with the proper pts etc, to record the changing scene

    Any delivery's expected at Havenstreet?

Having been dumped in the long siding for two decades, I've just seen a road-rail excavator shunting the two match trucks and ballast hopper at Ryde St Johns - they are supposedly heading to Sandown somewhen today for removal?

I don't know if these have any components which might have a use but the IOWSR has four air braked ballast hoppers as it is plus a ballast brake van.

because of the different coupling heights, the match trucks won't be of any use for shunting the 484's when they start to arrive , I assume working 38 unit will be used to take its withdrawn sisters to Sandown for scrapping once island line closes for the maintaince work.

I've just tried again with the same result, then with a different browser which opened the page OK.

Not so. I ran several photo charters and raised a lot of money for 34081 out of the profits. You’ll be surprised to learn how much some photographers are prepared to pay to get their photographs. Some are active volunteers too.

Unlikely. From the Faceache picture the hopper looks like a ZFV Dogfish (i.e. Vacuum braked). 2 of the IOWSR are HPA Dogfish, converted to Air brake by EWS for reasons that never became public. The other 2 are ex-LUL, I believe.

Balanced out by the other instances of photographers who contribute not a sou in fares or refreshment purchases.

You get freeloaders in all walks of life Paul, I don't think the ranks photographers are necessarily overloaded with cheapskates any more than any other group.
I agree, you do see some in fields (annoying farmers) who you never seen on the railway, but then again I chat to quite a lot of togs who buy 3 day gala tickets and travel for maybe 1/2 a day, or just to get close to a location they want to shoot from (this is from experience both as a tog and from running the RAT bar on Mid Hants galas - it's true, almost everyone talks to the the barman... ;) )
Even at the one day I managed to attend the MH gala this year, I saw and chatted to togs on the station, that I see almost every year, who told me they hadn't been on a train all day, yet had paid the full admission.

They did acquire another of the Dogfish trio back in 2000 and there's a post on another forum suggesting it was through-piped, but it's since left for the mainland - DB992730 for anyone else interested in the minutiae of island-based ballast wagons...

DB992730 was fitted with an air pipe at Havenstreet after arrival from Sandown so that it could work between the two London Transport hoppers. The air pipe was then removed when it was sold on to the Plym Valley. It was redundant at Havenstreet after the acquisition of the two HPAs from Eurotunnel.

I read on facebook, the hopper and match trucks are headed for Havenstreet, Is that so, ok another hopper, might be useful, I suppose if the railway is going to provide a home for a 38 unit , then the match trucks would be needed to shunt it, or be able to be used when it needs to be collected and moved probally once the connection at Smallbrook is in, so they would need an axle box and braking service before they could run on the IOWSR.
