Not really. IMO it shows what it is. A 2009 mainline steam special. If you were going for a timeless shot then good luck... people with modern clothing, big pylon in the background, just isn't going to happen is it.

The shot is good, however i do say that with gritted teeth from the attitude you had on your "Day Spoilt" thread. Personally i would have gone for more/all of the train in and more exhaust if that was of course possible in the location you were. But i wouldnt say it's "ruined".

It's not that great a loss. There's no life in that picture, the pylon in the background is horrible, you've caught the rods dead-centre, cut too much of the smoke out, and if anything, you've also pressed the shutter a little too late. The choice of location/angle doesn't show a lot of imagination either.

Tango and Phil Jones have the best shots so far in this thread, although there are many fine offerings! It's just a shame about the focus in the former!

Video from today now uploaded with shots at Ashton Moss North Junction, approaching Copy Pit and Sough Summit. Youtube 'HD' option still has problems so video is 'choppy'

Superb shots gents =D> Cotton mill thread up to the usual high standards. I was expecting stiff competition from the Tornado thread today but i think this wins !!

I wonder if we'll get to see the fruits of the "extreme" window hangers labours ? If you look closely in 1T57's pic you can see the chaps dog purched on the tender !!

I had a smashing day out on the CME with a gang of mates today - then I see the correspondence about the video lunatic.

I sincerely hope that image on Copy Pit never gets to Network Rail - but it will

I sincerely hope that idiot is never allowed on a train again - but - as a "professional" he will be

I despair of the handwringing and inablity to recognise that some photo practices aren't really dangerous that so often appears on here - then I see something like that and the railwayman in me kicks off!

That was outrageous, dangerous, a ridiculous example to set - and the man should be banned for life.

As a window rider myself its head and a shoulder at best - but that - It just defies description!!

Nothing to do with other people's shots, just the recognition that sometimes you can't get in as quick as you think you can - and I don't want to see the results.

Fizzing - just fizzing - about the recklessness! [smilie=real mad.gif]

Someone's been reading too many digital photography mags, laugh, I nearly bought a round. :-D :-D :-D

"Here comes "Tornado", only doing about 70mph but I must get the rods at the bottom, allow for shutter lag, make sure it's in frame properly, shoot........................... bo**ocks missed it".
