This is a good idea which I didn’t know but I have been on google earth and I have found I think the shed as it has rails going up to it. This would be a good museum and makes me happier knowing they are not going to be in a siding. I have done a quick design of how it might look. 56DB2468-4BD8-4C19-AF9A-9BD65900DB9E.jpeg

Possibly not, however I think that would be the optimum solution from a volunteer point of view

Years and years ago over a 'few' pints in the William Cobbett in Farnham that building in Medstead was discussed as a home for 47324 and 44123. Most had sobered up the following morning but I am not sure if the idea reached all of the other LMSoc members. We did some initial digging around but other events overtook us. Sorry for the thread drift.

The shed was, for a time, the base for a garden machinery business. It's then owner was the son of a PW Inspector at Aldershot, Sid Edmonds, who was badly injured in a shunting accident during track relaying at Aldershot. (It's all a bit like that old Degrees of Separation schtick.)

So you don't think that is a legitimate concern? Perhaps I could interest you in this redundant tower in Paris I happen to have exclusive rights on.....?

Steve Edge's site has this: http://www.wsr.org.uk/news.htm#2205
It seems that a total withdrawal from Washford might not now take place (fingers crossed). It would appear from this that the station will revert to the PLC, so a tin of Mud and Custard paint will be required to keep JJP happy!

    Interesting...................

Basically gives the S&DRT a breathing space before they move out.

That's the impression I also got from my only visit to Hollycombe (although that was back in 2016).

The basis for the notice purportedly was Washford being required by the PLC

    Consider me to be unsurprised

This latest news is certainly much better than most of the news from the WSR over the last few years. There are pros and cons to the S&DRT's stuff being split between Washford (at least pro tem) and the Mid-Hants. Potentially it could be accessible by more visitors, but harder to manage. If the split does actually suit the Trust, that's fine. But it leaves some very messy loose ends. If the PLC has only limited need for the Washford site for the time being, what reason can they now cite for cancelling the S&DRT's lease? Will the new lease be any more secure than the old one? If the Bailey plan for restructuring the WSR with a new PLC comes to fruition, what happens to the new lease then?

Hollycombe does seem to have declined since my first visits in the 1990s. No standard gauge any more, no traction engine rides any more, 3 fairground rides being run by one operator on a rota basis, rather than all running simultaneously, several fairground rides not in use any more, and atmosphere not there with only sporadic fairground organ music, rather than constant like it used to be. I guess it all comes down to lack of volunteers and lack of money. Narrow gauge line still very enjoyable though.

    Anyway that’s completely off topic.

This does all feel like the embarrassed parents of a petulant toddler having to make amends for their child's wanton act of vandalism some 9 months ago. At least that suggests there are some grown-ups on the PLC board who have finally come to realise the magnitude of the destruction unleashed. It's all very pathetic and unnecessary though. And worst of all, the toddler is still in charge!
